OHM BOCES serves school districts in a 549 square-mile area comprising Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties. 🔬 Enhancing hands-on science learning in our classrooms! 🧪

Educators recently gathered at Oneida-Herkimer-Madison (OHM) BOCES for an interactive Science Kit Deep Dive Workshop on Oct. 9!

Teachers explored physical kit materials, learned about online curriculum resources and reviewed how the kits instructional strategies align with New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards to support learning across the K-5 spectrum. 🔍💡

Designed for grades K-5, OHM BOCES Science Kits provide teachers with complete lesson plans, presentation files, workbooks, and all the resources needed to facilitate engaging classroom learning. These interactive units bring science to life across a wide variety of topics—spanning from topics like the five senses and weather to chemistry and space systems! 🌌🤚

This collaborative session helped educators maximize the potential of the OHM BOCES Science Kits, providing them with the insights, materials and resources needed to deliver engaging science education! ✨

High school juniors and seniors across the region took part in job shadowing sessions through the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES School & Business Alliance program on Oct. 6. Students interested in business, finance, accounting, law and government were paired with host businesses based on their specific career interests to gain firsthand insight into professional workplaces! 🏛️📊

Participants got the chance to tour a variety of local businesses, ranging from law firms and banks, including the pictured Nimey’s New Generation Cars and MVCC’s thINCubator. 🚗💡

A huge thank you to the 18 local businesses that opened their doors for the day—the support of our local business partners is invaluable in providing our students incredible learning opportunities like this!

The shadowing sessions were part of a series of dates throughout the fall focusing on students with various professional interests. Overall, approximately 600 students from 13 area school districts are participating in job shadows across nine dates this fall! 🤝

📚 Great teaching grows when educators learn from one another!

OHM BOCES’ Program and Professional Learning partnered with the Westmoreland Central School District and the Public Education and Business Coalition (PEBC) to bring educators from nine area school districts together, from Oct. 7-9, for Inspire New York Through Phenomenal Teaching.

Throughout the three-day institute, educators:
💡 Shared teaching strategies and new ideas
🏫 Observed classroom instruction in action
🤝 Learned from colleagues across the region
🎯 Explored ways to engage students and strengthen learning

Participating districts included, Whitesboro, New Hartford, Holland Patent, Oriskany, Remsen, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, Oneida, Sauquoit and Westmoreland.

The partnership is helping build lasting connections among educators, creating more opportunities to share ideas and strengthen classroom practices to benefit students for years to come.

We’re honored to thank the OHM BOCES Cooperative Board for their leadership, dedicated governance and commitment to our students, staff and entire regional community! 🌟

Composed of representatives from each of our 12 component districts, our Board works tirelessly to advocate for and serve our region.

From establishing District policies and overseeing regional programs to guiding annual budgets and fostering strong community partnerships, our Board members play a vital role in directing our organization and empowering student success.

Throughout October, we’re raising awareness about the impact of bullying and cyberbullying, and fostering compassion, acceptance and inclusion in our community.

At OHM BOCES, we are committed to creating safe and supportive environments where every student feels welcome. Through the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), our staff receives training in diversity and bias awareness. Dedicated DASA coordinators are available in our facilities to assist with incident reporting and investigations.

If you or someone you know has experienced bullying on or off school grounds, please don't hesitate to speak up. Reach out to your building's DASA coordinator to report concerns—your voice makes a difference. 🗣️️💙

💪 Pulling together for a great school year! 🌾

Students from our CTE Animal Science and Conservation programs — along with two MiTech students eager to join FFA — kicked off the school year with their annual tug-of-war on the OHM BOCES Main Campus!

Because both Animal Science and Conservation feature FFA programs, this tradition serves as a fun introduction activity to help students meet their peers, build connections and strengthen teamwork across programs.

Through the OHM BOCES FFA chapter, students will continue collaborating on projects throughout the year, building the leadership and camaraderie at the heart of CTE and FFA. 👏💙

🥦Taking action to nourish our community! 🍎

Our SkillsUSA chapter at OHM BOCES recently hosted a "Nourishing Neighbors" event to raise awareness about food insecurity—an issue that affects one in five children right here in our local community.

Representatives from six local organizations visited our Main Campus to speak with students about their work and share how Career and Technical Education (CTE) students can volunteer their time to help fight local hunger:
