Winter break is over - time to find your creative side! Raintree Cottage is back and taking sign-ups for private and/or group lessons. Thursdays and Fridays in January and February, two-hour sessions available from 10 to 3 (from 10 to noon, or 1 to 3, Central time). Find us at 336 Steammill Street, New Harmony, just around the corner from the New Harmony Working Men's Institute.
Classes are make it & take it home, tools and supplies provided.

Valentine keepsake: create a prim fabric heart. Minimal sewing but maximum joy, beginning level on up. Cotton ticking & plaid, or wool with embellishments -feel free to bring your own prim buttons, keys, pins, ribbon for a personal touch. $25/person.

Weaving on a loom: create a colorful table runner to brighten up your home on winter days. Looms and yarn provided, the looms are pre-warped so you can dive into the exciting world of weaving. For a longer runner, sign up for two sessions (one per week, or morning + afternoon, or a Thursday & Friday session).
$35/per person per session. (Two sessions' discount = $30/session)

Learn to sew: make a simple pillow or pincushion. Sewing machines provided, so you can enjoy stitching up the fabric of your choice into something useful. No experience required, the sewing machines are easy-to-use, modern and lightweight. $30 per peron.

Christmas in New Harmony is this weekend! Stop by the Community House #2, one block north of the blinker light on Main, next to Casa Armonia, for unique shopping from our artisan vendors.
Loom Hall is on the main floor, and will hold demos of spinning from our wool sheep flock, at 11, 1 and 3. Catch the festive spirit!

It's almost Kunsfest time!!
This weekend is New Harmony's wonderful fall festival, all over town. Stop by the Historic Village on the lawn of the Working Men's Institute (the WMI), 407 Tavern Street, to see the work and wares of demonstrating 19th century artisans: Auxier Creek Forge blacksmithing, Loom Hall textiles, Darmstadt Broom Shop, and an authentic Civil War re-enacting group. While here, enjoy browsing the Used Book sale inside the WMI. You're sure to find unique treasures! See you all soon!

Learn to observe and draw from nature, this class is for beginners on up!

Join Peggy Taylor for a six-week project in New Harmony, where you can learn to sketch flowers and plant forms while enjoying the gardens and green spaces of New Harmony! Funded by the Indiana Arts Commission, this program offers guided instruction as you observe, record, and draw inspiration from the beauty of Utopia. The program dates are as follows: September 11,18,25, and October 3,10,17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each day.

No experience is required to attend this free class, and art supplies will be provided. Please call the WMI to register for this event!

Summer is so busy with gardens, we'll be harvesting Indigo and woad soon. The flax is doing very well this year, soon to be pulled and dried. Marigold and Dyers Chamomile flowers are drying, and butterflies and bees are enjoying the zinnias. So grateful to live in our growing zone and for recent rains and sunshine.
Happy 4th of July, everyone, enjoy all the festivities this Independence Day!
