Jon's Boyertown School Board Commentary

Jon's Boyertown School Board Commentary My personal commentary about the BASD School Board...no affiliation with BASD or any group I've lived in the Boyertown region for nearly 20 years.

My wife and I chose this region to raise our family because it had a reputation as a family-friendly community, and so it has been. I've never regretted my decision to come here. Running for office is a way I can give back to the community that has welcomed us so warmly. BASD, as do all schools, face a critical time as we transition to a more or less "normal" world as we recover from the pandemic.

We need to:

*Make sure all our students are properly supported as they transition back to full in person learning

*Make sure we are effectively using the resources we have to offer the best education we can to prepare all our students for life in a changing world. I feel I will bring unique qualifications to the board:

*I am a highly analytical long-term planner
*I've successfully built and managed budgets of $100+ M
*I put students first and believe their education is an investment in our future.
*I will encourage more parent and community participation. I look forward to talking with you all over the coming weeks over issues important to you.

So the current board president, Anthony Panarello and vice-president, Jeffrey Zawada believe in doing something that would put half of all our students at risk

I can only assume it's because they don't know how public education works and how it's supported.

Which is a shame because what the hell have they been doing for four years if not learning this?

But based on their own words, it's likely politics, not pragmatism, that drives them.

Is this who you want making decisions for your children?

Ones who are so invested in partisanship they would willingly support putting over half our students at risk?

I hope not.

Vote

Jason Szczurowski for Boyertown School Board for Region 2
Lynne Conner for Region 3: https://www.facebook.com/share/1CwBQUnav7/

In the Mercury's election issue published on 10/22/25, current board President Tony Panarello (Region 2) and VP Jeff Zawada (Region 3), both up for re-election on 11/4, clearly state that they are in favor of disbanding the Department of Education (DoE).

Disbanding the DoE puts the benefits and protections of Title 1 students and special needs students at risk. In BASD, 53% of students are Title 1 or attend a schoolwide Title 1 building* and all special needs students will be directly affected by DoE ending. Therefore, Tony and Jeff are in favor of something that would negatively impact more than half of all Boyertown's students.

Why would you trust them with another four years of making decisions against the interests of our students?

These Candidates will fight to protect all of our students!

12 years ago, when we were faced with cuts the school board tried to force on us, 1,100 of us showed up at MSW and organized protests that got on the news.

That helped change the mind of a school board member who broke with Ruth Dierolf and voted to save many of the programs you still enjoy today.

Have a student in high school and you don’t like the period getting cut?

You could do something similar at tomorrow night’s meeting.

Or you could just let it happen to you again and complain about it on social media afterwards.

Choice is yours.

The current school board shows you its thinking…in their minds we can’t have a new thing (language) without giving something up (music/sports).

This is a false choice! Other districts offer these things.

All it takes is smart planning and proper funding…two things our board is unable…or unwilling…to do.

Note: feedback works. The vote is now next meeting, the 24th...and tonight's presentation is now posted.

Now parents...I hope you read, watch and comment! This is your kids' educations!

Parents of MS and HS students- a chance to get involved:

Tuesday's board meeting is at 7 PM at the high school in the LIBRARY will feature a discussion of the MS and HS programs of studies. They will do a presentation first...we have a chance to comment publicly, and then in the very same meeting the board will vote to approve.

We only got the agenda this afternoon, and the agenda does not include a link to a presentation.

So we have no idea what's in the presentation, what the ramifications of these programs of studies are, and we will have mere minutes to digest and then comment before the board votes.

This highly irregular and totally untransparent to vote on such an important topic in the same meeting we first learn anything about it.

I would suggest you sign up for Public Comment #1 Tuesday (see details of how to do so below) and demand the school board delay this vote until the public has had more time to review and input into it.

I'm going to do this but I'll be honest...this board stopped listening to me long ago, and i don't have kids in the high school/middle school.

If you do have kids...you should sign up and do this.

Sign up with Sandra Kramer at [email protected] to speak on Tuesday. She will need name, address, email, affiliation (if any) and topic. You need to sign up BEFORE 1 PM Tuesday.
Public Comment 1…the comments have to pertain to an agenda item.
Public Comment 2 can be about anything at all.

Extemism exposed part 2...teaser.

I'm still working on getting the proper references together, but I will tease this by saying that Ms. Skelton's implications that I was lying about how her 1776 PAC endorsement came to be aged about as well as Ms. Scott's assertions I was lying...and in the same manner...she admitted she sought it out, just like I said she did.

When people put more energy into getting angry at those who demand transparency than they put into being transparent, it should be a sign.

Stay tuned...and I will also explain the fundamental difference between a PAC like Boyertown Forward and unconnected PACs like Project 1776...because the opponents of the candidates I am supporting have tried to conflate Boyertown Forward with those kinds of PACs as well...you should be asking yourself why they would do that.
