✨SAE SPOTLIGHT✨

Our September SAE Spotlight is Brenna Throndson! Read below to learn more about her SAEs!

My name is Brenna Throndson and I am a senior at New Hampton and also serve as the 2026-2027 New Hampton FFA Chapter President. Throughout my FFA Career I have had seven different SAE projects which helped me to obtain my Iowa FFA Degree as a junior. In the last 4 years, I have invested about 1,200 hours and $6,000 dollars and made an income of over $9,000 between all my SAE projects.
My first SAE project is Throndson Farms where I work alongside my family on our beef farm operation. We have around 90 cow calf pairs, and around 100 feeders. In this project I also record my field work in the spring and harvest. Throughout this project I have learned to operate equipment, properly care for a livestock herd, assist a cow in giving birth, vaccinate an animal, create a safe and healthy environment for a herd, and so much more.
My next two SAE projects are Throndson Breeding Beef and Throndson Market Beef. These projects are for my show animals that I take to the Chickasaw County Fair. These projects have helped me invest and make an income and have accomplished my goal of starting my own cattle herd before I graduate highschool. Last year I raised, showed, and sold two market animals and a breeding heifer. My breeding heifer is currently pregnant and is due to calve early April.
My next SAE is Throndson Equine, where I have my Thoroughbred Gelding named Doc. This has given me the opportunity to trail ride all across Northeast Iowa and parade with my horse in local parades.
My last few SAE projects are for the New Hampton FFA Chapter Greenhouse and High Tunnel and my past Greenhouse manager positions where I have spent over 100 volunteer hours monitoring and harvesting the produce in our facilities. I also have two different SAE projects for rock picking in the summer which has given me another source of income.
All of these experiences have taught me what it means to be a good agriculturalist and how to build my future around the agriculture industry.
