Happy Birthday National Park Service! Today we celebrate the amazing work the National Park Service does to support communities across the nation and provide places for recreation, reflection and connection.

We think Ike and Mamie would enjoy getting in on the celebration too, considering they donated their beloved Gettysburg farm to the Park Service in 1967! Cheers to 110 years of America’s Best Idea!

Let's take a Tuesday tour of the early Lincoln Highway Control Stations in Beaver County, PA. This will take us to the Ohio Rive and the western terminus of the 1928 Lincoln Highway route.

The Most Interesting Part About Lincoln Motor Court Is The History… And While It’s Proven Surprisingly Difficult To Find Much That Dates Back Before 1960, We Were Lucky Enough To Recently Track Down An ORIGINAL Lincoln Motor Court Postcard From Our Earliest Years!

This Postcard Is Especially Fascinating Because It Advertises Some Of The Amenities Travelers Could Expect More Than 80 Years Ago — Including:

🚿 Showers
💧 Hot Water
🔥 Heat
🛏️ “Hollywood Beds”
✨ And “Strictly Modern” Accommodations

Today, Those Things Barely Warrant A Mention, But During The Early Days Of Roadside Travel, Amenities Like Hot Water, Private Showers And Modern Heating Were Genuine Selling Points — Luxuries That Weren’t Even Standard In Every American Home At That Point!

It’s A Small Piece Of Cardstock, But It Gives Us An Incredible Glimpse Into How Lincoln Motor Court Looked, How It Was Marketed, And What Travelers Were Looking For During The Golden Age Of The American Road Trip.

And Now We’re Searching For More...AND YOU'RE HELP!! 👀

The 1776 Dobbin House was a stop on the Lincoln Highway Association national conference during the downtown Gettysburg bus tour.

With the centennial of the 1928 concrete posts right around the corner in 2028, we're experimenting with best ways to clean the outdoor memorials without damaging the century old surfaces. Even light scrubbing or power washing could too easily damage the posts.

Yesterday we used Endurance Restoration Products Gravestone Monument Cleaner on two locations. Some key points to share.
- No mixing with water.
- Easy to apply with portable sprayer.
- Just cover from top to bottom.
- Extra coats to remove stains.
- Biodegradable.
- No rinsing. Just leave on post.
- Used 1/2 gallon per post.

Some additional thoughts:
- We don't recommend painting colored parts of posts. Paint could harm surface.
- Bronze medallions may be coated with light coat of wax, but this doesn't last long.
