By conservative estimates, LGBTQ+ individuals make up approximately 4.5% of the US population, but account for 8%—approximately $1 trillion—of the country’s disposable income, according to a 2020 report from Kearney.

LGBTQ+ consumers also are more likely than members of other groups to seek out brands that represent and include them, to reward those that show sustained support of LGBTQ+ friendly media and causes, and to remain loyal to brands that are loyal to them.

These five MU students recently won a virtual advertising competition hosted by the American Advertising Federation! They were asked to create a compelling and actionable marketing campaign that included copy, design, and art for both traditional and digital advertising and social media. The students target audience included: homeless residents of Columbus, transitional housing residents, anyone at risk of being homeless, and anyone who had been homeless within the past two years.
