Dear Muskingum Athletics Parents and Friends,
Muskie Nation – We are Back!! The energy within our hallways is high, and we are ready to continue moving forward in areas around competitive outcome and leadership development. As we collaborate with faculty and staff around campus, we remain committed to strengthening/developing our student-athletes from recruitment through graduation. We are confident that our graduates are prepared for the world after their time on our campus.
As we prepare for another exciting year of Muskingum Athletics, I want to take a moment to welcome you and thank you for the important role you play in the success of our student-athletes.
Fall sport practices are underway, teams are preparing to compete, and our student-athletes are eager to represent Muskingum University with competitive pride. There is truly nothing like game day at Muskingum! The energy, enthusiasm, and support from our community help create an atmosphere that inspires our athletes and makes competition special.
As a department, we hold ourselves to high expectations. We strive to develop champions in competition, in the classroom, and in life. We are engaged with our local youth and communities, and we recognize that our impact matters. Our coaches and staff are committed to providing an environment that emphasizes accountability, commitment, sportsmanship, personal growth, and academic success. Ultimately, we ask our student-athletes to uphold the values that make Muskingum Athletics a source of pride for all of us.
We also want to recognize the tremendous impact of our fans. Thank you for being loud, proud, and positive supporters of our teams both at home and on the road. Our student-athletes notice your presence and appreciate the encouragement you provide. It is a priority of ours to create an environment that inspires recruits, welcomes alumni back home, and helps our student-athletes compete at a high level physically and mentally. Whether competing at home or on the road, your support helps create memorable experiences and reinforces the strong sense of community that defines Muskingum Athletics. Please be a strong extension of our department's expectations while cheering on the Muskies this year. Remember – officials are humans too and are bringing their best efforts to the playing surface every game.
To our first-year parents (and as a reminder to returning parents and loved ones of our awesome Muskies) – we know that you are also navigating an important transition in your Muskies' life. The move from high school athletics to college athletics brings a different support role. While your encouragement, love, and guidance remain as important as ever, college athletics provides student-athletes with opportunities to develop greater independence, responsibility, and resilience. Your role evolves from managing the day-to-day experience to serving as a trusted source of support, perspective, and encouragement as they learn to navigate challenges and celebrate successes on their own.
The most successful college athletics experiences occur when student-athletes are empowered to communicate directly with coaches, advocate for themselves, and take ownership of their journey. We appreciate your partnership in supporting their growth as young adults while continuing to be their biggest fans.
On behalf of our coaches, staff, and administration, thank you for entrusting us with a major part of your student's collegiate experience. We are grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you in the stands throughout the year.
Let's make this an incredible season together. Be loud. Be proud. Be positive.
Go Muskies!
Sincerely,
Kari Winters
