Are you thinking about playing the piano? Have a child that is interested in paying the piano? Schedule a trial lesson today! You do not have to commit to an entire season of piano lessons in order to explore the possibilities. $30 for a 45 minute trial lesson in either the Austintown or New Castle locations.

Elisabeth Tyler has been teaching piano for over 20 years. She holds a BA in Music Education K-12, BA in Church Music, and a Masters in Music Education. Outside of teaching she has served as church pianist, wedding pianist/music organizer, vocal accompanist, choral accompanist, capellmeister and performed in a variety of venues that include funerals, graduations, and dinners.

Let's talk about teen choir.

1. Teen: technically ages 12-18 (or senior in HS), depending on the maturity and comfort of the 12 year old.

2. The focus of this group is to become reasonably good mature singers that are able to carry pitch and sing with others.

3. This time in a person's life can be the most sensitive for their voice as it is maturing and changing. Treating that tool with care and developing it to have clear articulation, appropriate volume and pitch and a solid control of breathe are not only beneficial in music but in every vocal interaction that you will have in life.

4. Choir is a training ground for facial expressions that are used to convey nonverbal articulations. These are useful for daily interactions, presentations, job interviews, relationship management, campaigning, acting, etc.

5. Singing: We learn to sing. We may sing songs that haven't been sung for a hundred years. We may sing songs that our grandparents grew up with. We may sing songs in other languages. There are so many possibilities!

Do you have a student that may be interested? Do you know others that may have interested teens? Please share this registration form if you have anyone in the New Castle are that may be interested. We need at least 10 teenagers to put a group together this year and we haven't quite met that number yet. There will be some very sad kids if we can't get a few more registered, so please share this today. Thank you!

What is teen choir?

Teen choir is an extension of the children's choir. Many of the participants grew up in children's choir. They requested a continuation of the choir experience in order to expand their repertoire knowledge, learn more about vocal and breathe control, gain experience in part singing, and more.

Ages 12-senior in high school are welcome to join. I am flexible on the placement of 12-year as they may wish to remain with the younger choir or go into the more advanced group. It depends on their height, maturity and grade level. These classes are meant to encourage a love for music, not to make people feel miserable, so that flexibility is maintained.

We will be working on a variety of music this year that includes rounds, patriotic, Christmas, and humorous songs!

What is Children's Choir?

Every Thursday at 2:00-2:45, children ages 6-12 meet at the Dewey Avenue Holiness Church in New Castle to sing. However, singing is not all that they do. They learn how to treat their vocal chords in order to produce good sound, they learn how to shape their mouths to produce articulate sounds, and they learn about how the muscles throughout the abdomen work together for breath control. Beyond singing they learn the background information on the song, its composer, and the time period when it was written. This year we will be continuing our theme of America's 250th birthday with songs by American composers; who they were, the styles they wrote, and why their music is important to American culture.

Children's Choir is not just singing - it is science, history, language, and math! Are you interested in enrolling your student? Registration can be done through this link:

Cost is $20, per student for the semester (approximately 15 class sessions) - it is not due until our first meeting in September.

Note: There is not currently a choir in Austintown, however I am open to starting one if enough people are interested. If you think this is something that you would like to happen, please contact me here to discuss this.
