New Castle Area School District New Castle Area School District is an urban public school district located in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. The District encompasses three schools: Harry W.

The mission of the New Castle Area School District is to create a safe and respectful learning environment, fostered by collaborative community partnerships, where all students will develop necessary skills both academically and socially that will prepare future-ready life-long learners who will become productive citizens and resilient leaders in a global society. Lockley, a K-2 Early Learning center; George Washington, a grade 3-5 intermediate school; a junior high, grades 6-8; and a senior high school, grades 9-12.

Lawrence County School to Work recently hosted an 8th Grade Career & Business Fair! Mrs. Ondako organized an exciting opportunity for students with a strong interest in public health and the skilled trades to visit the Scottish Rite Cathedral and explore a variety of career paths.

Students heard from industry professionals who shared their educational journeys, personal passions, and the experiences that led them to their chosen careers. This valuable experience helped students gain insight into future opportunities and envision what their own career paths might look like!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this an engaging and inspiring experience for our students! Lawrence County School-To-Work, Inc.

Fine Motor Friday in Mrs. Anderson’s Class!

The students worked through three hands-on activities designed to build the fine motor skills they need for a strong pencil grip and successful handwriting.

🔹 Pinch & Line Up: Students used their pincer fingers to pick up tiny beads and carefully place them along squiggly lines.
🔹 Connect the Dots: Students connected colored dots using the matching color of marker, working on both fine motor control and visual coordination.
🔹 Tape Ball Challenge: Using only the pincer fingers on their dominant writing hand, students peeled masking tape from the table, rolled it into a tiny ball using one hand, and dropped it into a cup!

Little hands were busy, little fingers were getting stronger and students had lots of fun!

Miss Mittler’s 2nd graders became scientists while exploring the different states of matter!

Students experimented with crayons and observed what happens when a solid is heated and changes into a liquid.

They made observations, asked questions, and had fun watching science happen right before their eyes!

Students in Mrs. Ferrari’s class wrapped up their unit on “Communities” with a fun and creative project, pop-up dioramas!

Each student got to choose the type of community they would like to live in and then brought their vision to life by coloring, cutting, gluing, and even giving their community a special name!

But the learning didn’t stop there! Students also collected class data and created a graph to show which type of community their classmates preferred. Urban communities were the most popular choice!

What a wonderful way to combine creativity, data collection, and learning! We are so proud of our young learners!
