Piano With Phoebe

Today I went to the Houston Area Suzuki Piano Workshop. It was very inspiring to observe the work of the out of town clinicians and see the children having fun, learning music theory through games, moving with music, drumming, oh and playing piano! How cool that the students in Book 2 and above are able to play chamber music with two string players. I'm grateful for this organization and proud to be a Suzuki teacher.

Saturday at 4:00 at Houston Piano Company is my studio piano recital. I'll also be playing a piece - the Mozart variations on "Twinkle Twinkle," which I thought might be enjoyable for the kids!

Rewarding moments with my students lately:
* seeing my three third/fourth grade girls enjoy playing duets together
* seeing my five-year old play with good hand position and play confidently by ear.

I am also hoping to start group lessons with some of my students next year, a good challenge!

Day 3 of Suzuki Piano Book 1 training. I'm learning a lot (and refreshing a lot) of good ideas on technique, tone, pedagogy, and listening. The challenge will be to implement these ideas with my students.

I'm listening to the Suzuki Book 1 CD right now. It is to prepare for my upcoming Suzuki Book 1 training at the end of September. I'm really looking forward to the training.

Also, Jedidiah enjoys the music. I wonder if he realizes he will play those pieces someday. :) A child is never too young to start immersion in the Suzuki music.
