뉴캐넌 한글학교 2025 봄 학기 종강식
6월 7일, 뉴캐넌 한글학교의 봄 학기 마지막 날이 찾아왔습니다!
마지막 수업 후 맛있는 스낵과 함께 종강식을 시작하였습니다.
동요대회에 참가했던 아이들의 멋진 오프닝 무대로 행사의 막을 열고, 수료증 수여, 개근상, 그리고 교내 글쓰기 대회 및 말하기 대회 수상자 어린이들을 다시 한번 축하해 주었습니다.
한 학기 동안 문화·미술 시간에 완성한 아이들의 작품 전시도 함께 이루어졌고, 한 학기를 추억하는 영상도 함께 시청하였습니다.
이번 종강식의 하이라이트는 단연 성인반의 〈의좋은 형제〉 연극 공연이었습니다! 한국에서부터 의상을 직접 준비해 주신 교감선생님께 진심으로 감사드립니다.
선생님들, 학생들, 그리고 한 학기 내내 아낌없는 지원을 보내주신 학부모님들과 후원해 주신 모든 분들께 깊은 감사를 드립니다.
즐거운 여름 보내시고, 가을 학기에 다시 만나요! New Canaan Korean School – Spring 2025 Closing Ceremony
On June 7th, we celebrated the end of another wonderful spring semester at New Canaan Korean School!
After our final class, students enjoyed tasty snacks before the ceremony got underway.
The festivities kicked off with a lively opening performance by students who participated in the Korean Children’s Song Competition. We then celebrated our students with certificate presentations, perfect attendance awards, and recognition for winners of our in-school Writing and Speech Contests.
The hallways came alive with an art exhibition showcasing the beautiful work students created throughout the semester in our culture and art classes, followed by a highlights video looking back on all our memories together.
The highlight of the ceremony was undoubtedly the adult class’s theatrical performance of 〈The Two Brothers〉 (의좋은 형제)! A heartfelt thank you to our Vice Principal, who brought traditional Korean costumes all the way from Korea for the performance.
We are deeply grateful to our dedicated teachers, enthusiastic students, supportive parents, and all of our sponsors who made this semester possible.

4월 26일, 충무공 이순신 장군의 탄신일을 기념하여 최석재 박사님을 모시고 한산도대첩과 명량해전을 승리로 이끈 이순신 장군의 전략에 대해 배워보았어요. 남자아이들의 집중력과 흥미가 특히 돋보였고, 어른들이 보기에도 정말 흥미진진한 수업이었습니다. 이후 역사 수업에서는 이순신 장군과 관련된 내용을 이어가며, 모둠별로 나뉘어 거북선도 직접 만들어보았답니다. On April 26th, in honor of Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s birthday, we had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Choi Seok-jae, who taught us about the brilliant strategies behind Admiral Yi’s victories at the Battle of Hansan Island and the Battle of Myeongnyang. The boys were especially focused and engaged, and even the adults found the lesson absolutely fascinating! Following the lecture, we continued our history class with more on Admiral Yi, then split into groups to build our very own turtle ships. #뉴캐넌한글학교

뉴욕 한국 국악원 방문 공연 – 잊지 못할 하루!
지난 4월 19일, 뉴캐넌 한글학교에 특별한 손님이 찾아왔습니다.
뉴욕 한국 국악원의 강유선 원장님과 연주자분들께서 먼 길을 마다하지 않고 직접 방문해 주셔서, 학생들과 가족들이 수준 높은 전통 국악 공연을 감상하는 소중한 시간을 가졌습니다.
공연 관람에 그치지 않고, 소고·장구·징·북·꽹과리 등 다양한 전통 타악기를 직접 체험해 보는 시간도 마련되어, 아이들이 우리 전통 음악을 몸으로 느끼고 배울 수 있는 뜻깊은 기회가 되었습니다.
우리 문화와 전통을 음악으로 전해주신 강유선 원장님과 국악원 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 💙 On April 19th, the New Canaan korean School was honored to welcome the Korean Traditional Music Institute of New York. Under the wonderful guidance of Director Kang Yuseon and talented performers, our students and families enjoyed a beautiful performance of Korean traditional music — and even got to try playing traditional instruments such as the sogo, janggu, jing, buk, and kkwaenggwari. This event aims to recognize and reward non-Korean nationals who have a deep interest in Korean language and culture, and encourage them to continue exploring and engaging with the country.

[대회 개요]
· 접수 기간: 2월 26일 ~ 5월 7일
· 결과 발표: 5월 26일 (코리아타임스 지면 및 홈페이지)
· 참가 자격: 외국인 및 한국어를 모국어로 하지 않는 재외동포 누구나

[부문]
· 말하기: 자유 주제 또는 “내가 가장 좋아하는 K는?” (롱폼/숏폼)
· 발음: 한국어 잰말놀이(Tongue twister) 챌린지

우리 한글학교 아이들이 가장 좋아하는 문화수업 중 하나였어요 💛 On March 22, students at New Canaan Korean School enjoyed a fun “Market Day”
They brought toys and books from home to buy and sell, while practicing useful Korean phrases they learned in class 😊
It was one of their favorite cultural activities! 💛
