🦬💛 BISON ON THE LOOSE: WASHINGTON PARK ZOO EDITION! 💙🦬

What better way to wrap up an incredible summer than taking our little herd on an adventure to the Washington Park Zoo?! ☀️🦬

We checked out the animals, took some VERY serious “boat rides” 🚤😂, explored, laughed, and - for our bravest Bison - climbed ALLLLL the way up the tower! 😳 (Some of us were perfectly happy providing moral support from much closer to lake level. 🙋🏻‍♀️)

There were big animals, little animals, big smiles, little legs covering A LOT of ground, and approximately 47 reminders to stay with the herd. 😂

But this trip was extra special because it was one of our last big adventures with some of our Bison before they head off to Preschool. 🥹💙💛

We’ve watched these little humans PLAY, grow, find their voices, make friends, take risks, get messy, become more independent and fill our days with more laughter (and occasional chaos 🤪) than we ever could have imagined.

And now they’re ready for their next adventure.

Are WE ready?

Absolutely not. 😂😭

But off they go, carrying a little Bison bravery with them. 🦬💛

What a perfect day with our herd.

I’m not crying. You’re crying.
Okay… fine. We’re ALL crying. 😭😂🦬

A little dirt, a lot of learning. 🌿🪵💦

At NBAS Daycare, we know that some of the best learning happens when children are knee-deep in mud, digging in the dirt, splashing in puddles, and exploring the natural world with all of their senses.

Messy play isn’t just fun it supports important early childhood development. Through nature and muddy play, children build problem-solving skills, strengthen fine and gross motor muscles, develop scientific thinking, practice cooperation with peers, and engage in creative, open-ended exploration.

When children mix mud, transport water, collect treasures from nature, and create their own adventures, they are learning through hands-on experiences that align with Michigan’s Early Learning Standards for science, physical development, social-emotional growth, and approaches to learning.

So if your child comes home with muddy shoes, damp pants, dirt under their fingernails, paint on their sleeves, and a big smile on their face, know that they spent their day doing the important work of childhood. ❤️

There is apparently no greater luxury in early childhood than a fresh roll of tape.

Tiny hands become engineers, problem-solvers, artists, and inventors all at once as they explore resistance, connection, design, and creativity one sticky piece at a time. Tape play invites children to strengthen fine motor skills, practice persistence, experiment with spatial awareness, and bring BIG ideas to life.

Also… let’s be honest… half the joy is simply the dramatic rrrrripppp of pulling off the next piece.

Today our little scientists, engineers, and bug rescuers put their muscles and problem-solving skills to work! Armed with tiny hammers and BIG determination, they chipped, tapped, cracked, and explored their way through ice to free the trapped insects inside.

This hands-on invitation sparked curiosity, coordination, persistence, sensory exploration, and plenty of excited “I GOT ONE!” moments.

Bonus: no real bugs were harmed in this dramatic ice-age rescue mission.
