The Rutgers University Bands are proud to bring wonderful music and motion to our great university. The talented students and staff bring spirit to all areas of the university. This page includes all athletic and concert bands of Rutgers University. Enjoy this page to follow all band programs at Rutgers. The Marching Scarlet Knights, “The Pride of New Jersey”, is the ultimate unity of music and motion. Founded in 1915 as a military drill band, the band has grown to become a source of pride for the university, and State of New Jersey. For nearly 100 years the band has thrilled thousands of fans with exciting performances. The Marching Scarlet Knights tradition of excellence continues as the band takes the field for all home football games. More than being just an activity, the band program can become an exciting part of your college experience. As a new student, and member of the Rutgers Band you will be surrounded by friends before classes even begin. You will find instant study partners, as our membership is comprised of students studying in every possible academic major on campus. The sense of family in the band will help you adjust to life on campus, and lead to many life-long friendships. Full of color, tradition and endless school spirit, The Rutgers Band is always ready to welcome new, enthusiastic members.

The MSK is proud to welcome Dr. Turner Gray as the new assistant director to our athletic bands program!

Before arriving at Rutgers, Dr. Gray was the Pep Band Director at La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA. He holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Washington State University, and The Florida State University College of Music. His research is focused on how the marching arts can be a beneficial teaching tool for all students—especially music majors. As an active performer, adjudicator, and clinician, Dr. Gray has been featured at many conferences including the International Women’s Conference, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and various tuba/euphonium conferences.

Congratulations Dr. Gray! We are so excited for all that you will bring to our band program!
