Rutgers University SHADES Theater SHADES is a professional, improvisational, interactive peer theater ensemble which aims to educate students and encourage discussion about real life issues

SHADES (Student Health Advocates Developing Educational Scenarios) is a group sponsored by H.O.P.E. (Health, Outreach, Promotion and Education) which is a department within Rutgers' Health Department. We are student directed, and our scenes are student written and student performed. We perform for various university groups, such as dorms, clubs, and Greek life and can tailor our performance to cov

er requested topics. Performances include a facilitated discussion between the actors (remaining in character) and the audience. Performances create an alternative way to talk openly about critical and often untouched issues. Want to get involved? At the beginning of each semester we hold 3 nights of auditions, and no acting experience is necessary. We are looking for dedicated students with a passion for promoting education about difficult topics. SHADES meets each Friday from 4:30 ~ 8:30 pm and uses that time to rehearse, write scenes, and receive valuable training from guest speakers regarding many topics including LGBT issues and nutrition. We have shows at various times throughout the semester. You may choose to perform in as many or as few shows as your schedule permits.
