Today we spotlight Alumnus Martin Perez (NLAW'86) for his career in law and public service. 🔴🎉

Born and raised in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, Martin received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Labor studies from la Universidad de Puerto Rico (University of Puerto Rico). He went on to pursue a Master's degree in secondary education from Seton Hall University and a Law degree from Rutgers School of Law - Newark. Upon graduating, Martin became a trial attorney for the Hudson County public defender. Perez and his wife, Patricia Bombelyn, founded the law firm of Perez & Bombelyn located in New Brunswick.

In 1991, Martin founded the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey (LLANJ) to consolidate and sharpen the focus of the many Latino organizations throughout the state. The alliance enabled Latino leaders to address such important issues for their constituents as education, health care reform and public safety. Since its creation, the alliance has spun off a foundation and formed a political action committee to ensure that concerns of its stakeholders are heard in Trenton and throughout the Garden State. With New Jersey’s growing Latino population gaining political power, the alliance is playing an increasingly prominent role in improving the quality of life of its constituents.

In 2013, Martin became the first Latino appointed to serve on Rutgers' Board of Governors by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Natalie Leticia Morales was born in Taiwan, of Brazilian 🇧🇷 and Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 descent. Upon graduating from Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, Delaware in 1990, Natalie moved to New Jersey to pursue a bachelor's degree from Rutgers - New Brunswick. She graduated from Rutgers College summa cm laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree with dual majors in Journalism & Media Studies and Latin American studies in 1994.

Natalie Morales is a celebrated Emmy award winning journalist and news anchor known for serving as the news anchor on the popular NBC news and talk morning television show Today.

She is also known for reporting for numerous NBC News platforms such as Dateline NBC and NBC Nightly News.

Natalie has been named Hispanic Magazine’s 'Top Trendsetters', 'Top Hispanics to Watch' and one of the '50 Most Influential Latinas'.

In 2009, Natalie was inducted into Rutgers' Hall of Distinguished Alumni; the highest honor given to graduates who embody the Scarlet Forever ideal and push it further in ways that change the world.

As a journalist, Natalie has covered several major breaking news stories, including Hurricane Katrina, the Space Shuttle Columbia explosion, the Tsunami disaster, and the death of Pope John Paul II.

Currently, Natalie is the West Coast anchor of the Today Show.

Today we spotlight Dr. Saul Bautista (NCAS'13, NJMS'19), for his service and relentless pursuit to becoming a medical doctor 🔴🎉

Saul was raised in Newark, New Jersey in a working-class Dominican 🇩🇴 family. In the midst of two wars, he opted to forgo college and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2004. His experience working with wounded soldiers at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center is what inspired him to pursue medicine. Upon his return from military service, he went on to attain a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Rutgers University – Newark.

Upon graduating from RU-N, Saul enrolled in a dual MD/MPH degree program between Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and the School of Public Health.
-
In 2019, Saul was selected as one of only 60 veterans from across the country selected as a 2019 Tillman Scholar, awarded to military veterans and their spouses who are committed to making a difference in their communities. At that time, Saul became the 5th Rutgers student in history, to receive such honor.

Currently, Saul is in a combined residency program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Prisma Health/University of South Carolina.

Today we spotlight Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes (NLAW'96), a brilliant Alumna who leads a life of service and purpose🔴🎉
Born to Dominican parents in the Bronx and raised in Newark, NJ, Camelia M. Valdes is the Chief Law Enforcement Official in Passaic County, New Jersey.
On May 16, 2009, Prosecutor Valdes became the first Latina county prosecutor in the State of New Jersey, the first woman prosecutor in Passaic County, and the first lead prosecutor of Dominican ancestry in the United States.

A native of Puerto Rico, Yomaira was raised in Hoboken, NJ and is a first-generation high school and college graduate. She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in the department of Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley and her B.A. in English, Puerto Rican & Hispanic Caribbean Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University, New Brunswick (DC ’07).
