Studying American Politics and Political Change:

The Institute welcomes entrepreneurial thinkers who develop new knowledge about emerging topics and themes in American politics. Eagleton’s faculty, centers, and programs study: campaigns, elections and political parties; civic education and political engagement; ethics; governors and state politics; minority and immigrant political behavior; New Jersey politics; public opinion polling and survey research; public safety and community resilience; science and politics; women’s political participation; youth political participation and young elected leaders. Preparing Students for Civic Engagement:

Eagleton’s curricular education programs prepare selected undergraduate and graduate students to engage in politics as responsive, effective, ethical citizens and leaders. Undergraduate Associates and Eagleton Graduate Fellows learn from experienced faculty and political practitioners as well as through placements in political or government offices, discovering the real world of American politics beyond the headlines. Bringing political history beyond the classroom. 🎬

Eagleton’s Undergraduate Associates recently enjoyed a special screening of MARIO, a documentary exploring the life and legacy of former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo.

Following the screening, students joined Maria Cuomo, daughter of the former governor, and Eagleton’s own Dr. Saladin Ambar for a conversation about political leadership, public service and the lasting influence of Cuomo’s legacy.

Experiences like these are at the heart of Eagleton’s educational mission, connecting the next generation of civic leaders with the people, stories and ideas that have shaped American politics.

What does public service look like beyond the classroom? 🎓

Rutgers-Newark students Danny Carmona and Berdie Sainterme sat down to reflect on their experiences as Eagleton Undergraduate Associates, from connecting interests in law and social justice to politics to rethinking what it means to pursue public service.

Through the Undergraduate Associates Program, Rutgers juniors from across academic disciplines explore politics and government while connecting their own interests and career goals to public life.

Last Wednesday, Eagleton welcomed the New Jersey Colleges NJ College Civility Tour to Wood Lawn for an evening of conversation across political differences.

Led by Andrew LoMonte , vice president of the College Democrats of New Jersey, and John Rendzia III III, chairman emeritus of the New Jersey College Republicans, the conversation brought students together to discuss politics, public service and civic engagement, including how we navigate political disagreement, the issues shaping this election season and the role young people can play in our democracy.

At Eagleton, that work extends beyond studying politics. Through programs across the Institute and the Rutgers Democracy Lab , students are given opportunities to learn, lead, engage across differences and put civic participation into practice.
