The Political Science Department at Rutgers is a center of excellence in research, teaching, & service.

We train students to be active global citizens who can think critically and analyze politics using the most sophisticated tools in social science. Political Science at Rutgers is the joint enterprise of a diverse faculty and students from all parts of the nation and abroad. They share the use of extensive resources, joining together in classes, informal and spontaneous activities, formal decision-

From June 1–12, Rutgers Political Science hosted doctoral students, postdocs, and faculty for two weeks of hands-on training, expert guest speakers, and innovative collaborative projects.

Summer Internship Update: Finding the right career path is a journey that requires perseverance. Rising senior Valentina Ramirez, applied to over 30 positions before landing a role as a Funding Policy Intern at the New Jersey Department of Education, placed through the NJ Latino Caucus Foundation Internship Program.
From navigating state statutes to collaborating with state education leaders, here is a look at her experience and advice for the next generation of leaders:

💡 Embracing the Unexpected: One of the most critical responsibilities involved diving deep into state statutes and administrative codes to clarify complex funding policies. It proved that policy work requires a keen eye for detail and an adaptable mindset.

🚀 Advice for Future Applicants: “Begin looking for internships months in advance. Hiring for government internships starts earlier than you think. Also, talk to upperclassmen about the pre-professional programs they’ve been involved with in the past.”

Congratulations on a fantastic and impactful internship experience!

🎓⭐️ Alumna Victoria Field ‘16, Antitrust Assoc. at Simonsen Sussman, LLP & former Assistant Attorney General, enforcing antitrust laws for the state of Connecticut, shares some wisdom for future lawyers.

🏛️⚖️ Prior to law school Victoria worked in healthcare policy & then completed her JD in 2023 at Fordham Law.

⭐️🤝The secret to success? “If you plan to go to law school, keep an open mind. I knew going in that I wanted to do something with healthcare policy, but I didn’t even know what antitrust law was. Have a plan but be flexible and know that it will most likely change.”

🎓🇫🇷”While I initially pursued the Master’s to refine my skillset & potentially have a higher starting salary in the U.S., I decided to start my career in Europe and see where it takes me.”

It was here, through an apprenticeship contract that Jackson started networking, applying & navigating a new country, he found the socially-oriented business Olecio.

It might feel early, but now is the perfect time to start looking for internships.
🌟 Seniors — this is your moment.
If you haven’t landed an internship or job yet, don’t panic. Just ask recent graduate Eva Maria Hernandez.
After graduating in May 2025, Eva joined the NJ Governor’s Hispanic Fellows Program through the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development (CHPRD) — part of the NJ Department of State.

About applying to internships post-graduation Eva says, “Go for it! Any experience is good experience, and through this program, I met students at all levels—from incoming freshmen to master’s students.
