Long time pedagogical consultant for the Littman Families Holocaust Resource Center at the Rutgers Bildner Center, her impact on teaching the Holocaust in New Jersey is truly inspiring.

The New Jersey Department of Education has appointed Colleen Tambuscio as the new Executive Director of the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education. A nationally recognized educator and longtime leader in Holocaust and genocide studies, Tambuscio brings decades of experience developing curriculum, training educators, and building partnerships that deepen understanding of this history.

She will lead the Commission’s work to strengthen Holocaust and genocide education across New Jersey—supporting schools, elevating awareness in communities, and ensuring students learn lessons that remain essential today. Laila Friedman, an art history and visual arts double major, was able to apply Jewish studies award funding toward research on her senior honors thesis, “Knights and Heraldry in a Jewish Context: An Examination of Four Folios of the Rothschild Pentateuch.” Her outstanding thesis was recognized with the prestigious Henry Rutgers Scholar Award. Joseph Gindi, a double major in Jewish studies and economics, completed his capstone project for the Rutgers Honors College under the mentorship of Professor Gary Rendsburg. The two produced a complete transcription of what is believed to be the oldest Mishnah manuscript ever discovered. Jewish studies award funds enabled Joe to travel to the University of Cambridge to examine a large part of their manuscript firsthand in the Cairo Geniza collection. He will attend Harvard Law School in the fall. Congratulations, Joe!

Eitan Weinberg is an Information Technology and Informatics major with a minor in Entrepreneurship. Outside of school, he designs and sells Judaica and other custom, handcrafted items through his brand, I.E. Creations. His award in Jewish studies will enable him to invest in advanced tools for fabrication, woodworking, and 3D printing. Congratulations, Eitan!
