RU COOL Rutgers University Center for Ocean Observing Leadership. Researching bio-physical processes of coastal waters off New Jersey and around the World.

The Coastal Ocean Observation Lab (COOL) at Rutgers University is part of the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences. The lab was established in October 1992 by Dr. Scott M. Glenn as the Marine Remote Sensing lab, and has since grown to include several faculty, over a dozen research staff members and countless graduate and undergraduate students.

RUCOOL was honored to represent Rutgers at the Homecoming Showcase for Alumni this weekend. Our grad student team was awesome, answering all questions that President Tate grilled them on from the Explorers of the Deep 4-H STEM Challenge. Chancellor Conway was also in attendance, discussing our global ocean glider missions. Thanks to everyone that made this event possible!

RUCOOL was visited this week by a group from the US Marines and Fathom4. They were here to learn more about our HF-Radar systems that are funded by . Hugh, Ethan and Tim took them on a tour of our facility as well as a beach visit to a couple of our sites.

The Honorable FJ Yatilman, Federated States of Micronesia's Secretary of Environment, Climate and Emergency Management, has been participating in the United Nations General Assembly. This weekend he visited RUCOOL with his wife Leo and were hosted by Leah, Mya and Fio. They discussed topics such as uses for our gliders in the ocean around FSM, storm predication, climate modeling, environmental engineering, coral restoration and aquaculture.

After 27 days of science at sea aboard the R/V Falkor (Too) the Project SPICE cruise has come to an end! The team worked non-stop throughout this time and although the field work is over the data analysis is just beginning. The field team managed to conduct close to 100 individual CTD casts, zooplankton net tows and tethered vertical turbulence profiler casts as well as more than 40 autonomous vertical turbulence profiler casts to 1000m.
