Phi Delta Chi is the first Professional Co-Ed Pharmacy Fraternity ever established. Founded November 2, 1883 at the University of Michigan by Albert Benjamin Prescott, the original Alpha Chapter began with 11 Brothers. As a fraternity, the equal treatment of each other in terms of trust and respect is highly valued as our chief objective is to promote a strong fraternal bond among all of the Brothers. Furthermore, Phi Delta Chi does not promote hazing to anyone who pledges to become a Brother. After all, Phi Dex Brothers are and will always be: "Brothers for Life." The Beta Nu chapter of Phi Delta Chi here at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey was founded on May 2, 1992. The chartering Alpha Class consists of 32 Brothers, and today there are over 50 active Brothers at the Beta Nu chapter. In total, 338 men and women call themselves Brothers of the Beta Nu chapter. We strongly urge you to consider carefully all of the opportunities that await you within Phi Delta Chi at the Beta Nu chapter of Rutgers University Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. AM I ELIGIBLE? Those candidates who receive a bid will have the option of whether or not to continue with the new member process. At our Chapter, there are a few requirements that interested individuals must abide by to be considered for a bid. In order to begin the process of becoming a Brother, the individual must be at least a first-year, second semester pharmacy student (PP1, second semester). The prospective brother must also have a minimum cumulative of 3.0 and semester GPA of 2.8. HOW DO I BECOME A BROTHER? The new member education process lasts about 6-8 weeks. During these few weeks, new members will learn about the history of our Fraternity and develop leadership skills that Phi Delta Chi Brothers possess. The candidates will be educated about Phi Delta Chi on both a chapter and national level. Furthermore, the candidates will engage in team building activities and participate in our projects that will foster the development of skills important for a future pharmacist. We also promote Brotherhood among our members and hope to see the prospective brothers establish an understanding of what we stand for and the Brotherhood values our fraternity shares. HAZING/ALCOHOL POLICY
Hazing activities: "Any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule."
- Our Chapter abides by strict no hazing and no alcohol policies. As a prospective brother, you will never be forced to consume alcohol or participate in any activity that can jeopardize your health and well-being.
- Our rush events are DRY; no alcohol will be served or consumed during our campus rush events. There will also be no alcohol present during new member education activities. WHAT DO ACTIVE BROTHERS DO?
- Once the prospective brother completes the new member process, he or she becomes a Brother for life. Active status Brothers will get to participate in a variety of activities with each other and the community. These activities include fundraisers, social events, professional projects, and community service for our school and national philanthropy (St. Whether it is planning, participating, or supporting, active involvement is highly encouraged.
- Brothers also have a responsibility of paying a new member fee of $135.
- As a professional organization, we also hold monthly meetings that are mandatory for all Brothers. We wear our Phi Delta Chi letters with pride and strive to live by our motto, "Alterum Alterius Auxilio Eget," every day.
