New from Dr. Zoe Lindenfeld, Amanda I. Mauri, Sachini Bandara, Jonathan H. Cantor, Ryan K. McBain, and Abigail Winiker finds that opioid settlement funds could replace only about 51% of federal SAMHSA funding for substance use disorder treatment and prevention.

The findings underscore the continued importance of federal funding, particularly for states facing the highest overdose burden.

Congratulations to Dr. Soumitra Bhuyan, Associate Professor and Executive Director of the Bloustein School’s Health Administration Programs, who has been selected for the Rutgers–New Brunswick Faculty Affairs Leadership Faculty Fellowship for the 2026–27 academic year.

Selected through a competitive Rutgers-wide process, the Faculty Affairs Leadership Faculty Fellowship provides faculty leaders with the opportunity to contribute to university-level faculty affairs priorities while further developing their leadership experience.

The fellowship builds on Dr. Bhuyan’s experience in academic leadership, program development, faculty engagement, and higher education. In addition to serving as as Executive Director of the Health Administration programs, Dr. Bhuyan was also the founding director of the school’s newly launched Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) program, leading its development and launch.

New research by Piyushimita (Vonu) Thakuriah, Vidyoth Sateesh, Jinhyun Hong, David Philip McArthur, and Daisuke Mizusawa in the Journal of Transport Geography examines car ownership in informal settlements across Asia. After surveying 6,076 households in 7 cities in India, Bangladesh, Philippines, and China, the study finds is rare but plays a dual role as both source and transportation.
