The Boggs Center is New Jersey’s federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program. The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development is a division of the Department of Pediatrics and a Community Health Program of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and part of a national network of UCEDD and LEND programs. Since its inception in 1983, the Center has emphasized a community-based, lifespan approach to meeting the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, and is dedicated to promoting independence, productivity, and full inclusion. The Boggs Center provides community and student training and technical assistance, conducts research, and disseminates information and educational materials relevant to the developmental disabilities community.

Margaret Gilbride, JD, CT, Director of Transition, Employment, and Aging & Disability at The Boggs Center, was honored with the Rebekah Novemsky Advocacy Award for Competitive Integrated Employment at the NJ APSE 2026 Summit on Friday, October 9th in New Brunswick.

The award, named for advocate Rebekah Novemsky, confers statewide recognition for advocacy that has advanced systems change and strengthened New Jersey’s commitment to Employment First. Recipients embody Rebekah’s unwavering dedication to inclusive employment, family engagement, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of equitable employment.

On Thursday, October 8, from 12:00–1:00 PM, the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities Office of Transition to Adult Life & Employment will present Employment for All: A Workshop for Individuals and Families on Supported Employment.

The workshop will explore Supported Employment and how it can help individuals with disabilities pursue competitive, integrated employment. For individuals and families exploring employment options, the workshop offers a chance to learn more about Supported Employment and the services that can help support employment goals

At Family Resource Network, we see the impact of Supported Employment firsthand through Getting to Work, our CARF-accredited program that provides personalized employment services, job placement assistance, skill development, on-the-job coaching, and ongoing support to help individuals prepare for, find, and succeed in competitive employment.

Join us for a free screening of LIFE AFTER, a gripping investigative documentary from Sundance-winning, disabled filmmaker Reid Davenport.

In 1983, a disabled California woman named Elizabeth Bouvia sought the "right to die," igniting a national debate about autonomy and the value of disabled lives. After years of courtroom battles, Bouvia vanished from public view. Decades later, Davenport sets out to find what really happened to her, and to reveal why her story is so urgently relevant today.

Weaving together the often missing voices of the disability community, LIFE AFTER examines the assisted dying debate with rare honesty. It challenges the assumption that assisted dying is always a free choice, showing how, for some, it can become the only option left. The film asks a question that lingers long after the credits roll: why is it acceptable to give disabled people the means to die, before supporting them in the chance to live?

The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is seeking a Training and Consultation Specialist for Person-Centered Approaches in Schools and Transition.

Under the supervision of a faculty member, this position conducts planning, development, training and technical assistance activities related to best practices in Person-Centered Approaches in Schools and Transition (PCAST). Provides training and technical assistance in Person-Centered Planning (P*P), program design, program implementation and program enhancement to school personnel statewide, with concentration on person-centered approaches for all students with disabilities, especially developmental.

Responsibilities include collaborating with the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of Special Education (DOE-OSE) and other Boggs Center personnel conducting training and technical assistance in P*P; developing, planning, and providing trainings; designing and disseminating instructional and other resources; project specific data analysis and reporting; and responding to requests for information.
