Mason Gross Dance at Rutgers-New Brunswick aims to provide students with an exceptional education in equitable approaches to dance training, dance scholarship, and dance-making. From July 22–August 3, Mason Gross Dance and Music students and alumni took part in the inaugural Rutgers Global Afro-Brazilian Dance and Music summer program in Salvador, Brazil ✈️ Hosted by the Dance Department at the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), the program immersed participants in dance and music classes with UFBA faculty, complemented by cultural excursions throughout Salvador that deepened their engagement with the city’s rich artistic, historical, and cultural traditions.

Faculty co-leads Frederick Curry, Dance, and Dr. Marjoris Regus, Music, were thrilled to celebrate the launch of this new annual opportunity for our students 🩵 Of the program, Professor Curry says, “One of the themes that emerged consistently was how powerful participants found the intimate integration of dance and music throughout the experience. That interdisciplinary approach became one of the program’s defining strengths and contributed significantly to the depth of learning and cultural immersion.”

Great news! Megan Amen, a graduate of the BFA class of 2020 (who double-majored in Political Science!) has just begun a new job as the Policy Engagement and Advocacy Manager for the United Service Organization. She previously worked on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant and Executive Assistant before making the jump to this new role! It’s so cool to see where Mason Gross graduates can take their career. We wish her the very best ❣️ Congratulations, Megan!
