Amazon is deciding to expand their market reach by adding grocery stores to the list of markets they are involved in. The idea is have an autonomous check out system where a customer would pick up their desired items in the store then simply walk out and be charged for what they grabbed. This is a wonderful innovation that would rid the stores from long grocery lines creating an efficient shopping experience. The issue, however, is that with this new system it could mean the end of cashiers as we know it. By eliminating this position could mean less available jobs to young adults and in the low skilled labor job market. By making it difficult for young adults to obtain early working experience what types of effects could we see in the labor market as a result?

Amazon opens a grocery store with no checkout line Amazon unveiled a new physical store on Monday that sells grocery essentials and ready-made meals. But the key selling point is what's missing: checkout lines.

Recently a deal has been made between AT&T(NYSE: T) and Timewarner(NYSE: TWX) for a merger between the two firms. This would enter AT&T in to the content production market. Currently they are just a provider for internet, phone and television. The merger would put AT&T in the same league as Comcast(NASDAQ: CMCSA) and how they own NBCUniversal which creates and provides their own content to service providers. Just last year AT&T also acquired DirectTV in a simile event which gave them access to their costumer base and service. With two heavy hitters with such power over the media could this pose a problem? Monopolistic competition has driven Comcast and AT&T to the forefront of service providing with internet phone and television, but is there really any room for another. This makes barriers to entry much more difficult for a new host with such big names with great control over the content market. There are channels out there that are still under separate entities but now they will have to negotiate and compete for deals with companies that own their own channels. Negotiations could become more difficult for the smaller channels and even be pushed out of the market from the power these two firms poses. Could we also see price hikes in terms of service? Will there be less unique content to view and fewer places to obtain it from? What do you think the deal could mean for us consumers?
