In her short career as an aviator, Harriet Quimby was the first woman to fly across the English Channel. She was a pioneering aviator, journalist, and film screenwriter. She became the first woman in the United States to receive a pilot certificate issued to her by the Aero Club of America. ​

Raymond de Lorche was a French pilot, though to be the first woman to pilot a plane and first women to receive pilot license, on 8th March 1910. She received the 36th aeroplane pilot's licence issued by the Aeroclub de France, the world's first organization to issue pilot licences. ​

Antony Habersack Jannus, called Tony Jannus was an early American pilot whose ariel exploits were widely publicized in aviation’s pre-World War I period. He flew the first airplane from which a parachute jump was made in, 1912. He also helped create the world’s first commercial airline.​

Uri Gil, is an Israeli brigadier general and a combat pilot, who flew for 18 years until he was 60 years old and did his last flight on June 20, 2003. He holds a Guinness World Record for the longest-flying fighter pilot. He is also a great painter.​

The Lockheed SR-71, or SR-71 Blackbird, secretly designed in the late 1950s as a spy plane during the cold war, was able to cruise near the edge of space and outfly a missile. To this day, it holds the records for the highest altitude in horizontal flight and the fastest speed for a non-rocket powered aircraft.​

Despite the consistent growth in the aviation sector, only 5% of the world's population has ever travelled on an airplane according to statistics. ​
