Application 2024-2025 08/11/2024

**Only a few spots available- Classes begin 8/21!**
I have received several emails with questions about classes this past week, so I have decided to keep the registration form open another few days. :)

Looking for reading help for your kiddo? Has your child has started reading and you aren't quite sure what to do next? Or are you needing some ELA and Fluency work for a child who can read independently but is still struggling?
I have a class for that! Operating within a small group setting, kids will become confident readers with an understanding of phonics and will work to build their fluency and comprehension.
I am a former classroom teacher, with a degree in education and a passion for reading. Check out the application below to learn more!

Application 2024-2025 08/06/2024

**Edit to add: I have 3 spaces available for payment through barter. If you are interested, please PM me :)**
**Applications close THIS FRIDAY!!**
For those of you that are new to the group, welcome!

My name is Mandy, and I teach reading and phonics with For the Love of Learning. I am accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year and would love for your family to join!

I am a certified teacher with a degree in Education (interdisciplinary studies). This is my 4th year teaching reading in a small group homeschool setting and I love it! I am scaling classes back a bit this upcoming year due to my own children’s schedules, but I do have 3 classes that currently have openings. Classes will be held in my home in the Dove Crossing neighborhood on Wednesdays. My classes are done in a group setting with a maximum of 8 kids per class. I will list current openings (subject to change) for each class below.

12:30-1:30 pm : Magic Tree House Book Study (3 openings) - For fluent and semi-fluent readers. This class is aimed at building students' confidence and reading independence. We will be reading through a few of the Magic Tree House books both in class as well as for homework. Students will be introduced to story elements, various forms of grammar and work on comprehension and fluency skills. **There is a small additional fee for this class to cover the cost of the book (usually $5-$8 per book- but I can sometimes find the books in small sets for less per book!) . We plan to do about 1 book per month. Various versions of this book have been published, so it is important that we all get the same version to match page and paragraph numbers.**
1:30-2:30 pm : Phonics Focus 2 (4 openings) - This class (generally ages 6-9) aims to increase student's confidence and reading skills in order to create fully successful independent readers. Students should have a basic knowledge of all individual letter sounds, blends, and a basic understanding of what long vowels are (that vowels make 2 sounds). The aim of this class is to bridge the gap between early phonics and fluent reading. This class is conducted in both a small and whole group setting.
2:30-3:30 pm : Phonics Focus 1 (3 openings) - This class (generally ages 5-7) aims to meet students on an individual level regarding phonics knowledge. Class will be done in both an individual/small group setting and whole group setting. This class hits multiple phonics skills beginning with blends, digraphs, long vowels, and vowel teams/combinations and continues to long versus short vowels, r-controlled vowels, and dives into vowel diphthongs, hard and soft letter sounds, vowel patterns and more. Students in this class will also add on to their sight word knowledge. *This class is perfect for students who completed Alphabet Awareness this year, or other students who know their alphabet and are ready to blend and read more than CVC words*

A note from Señora Stacey:
I want to let my students and families know that I will not be offering Spanish classes next year. It’s bittersweet to close this chapter but I’m looking forward to working at Canyon Middle School as an ESL paraprofessional for this next school year. It has been such a joy working with your kids these last two years, and a great blessing partnering with Mandy. I know For the Love of Learning will continue to help many homeschooling families. I will be posting ideas and avenues for Spanish over the next few weeks so you can continue to pursue world languages. Muchas Gracias!!!!

For the older kids, we offer book studies that help foster that love of reading teach ELA concepts! This session our Younger fluent readers will be reading "Heartwood Hotel: A True Home" while the older group explores the classic, "Matilda".⭐️

After hearing the right answer to the trivia question, you won't wanna miss out!🤯

https://forms.gle/fndZzidufcAWTrgN9

The answer is........ NINE!!! 🤯 At the super young age of 9, less than 35% of kids still read for fun. And the number just drops from there!! We must build that love of reading early so that children learn how to find joy in literature!
