It was wonderful hosting about 30 students and their teachers at NBHS this morning for a quick workshop on learning the North Carolina Honors Chorus audition piece and learning more about the audition process. Thank you to the teachers that came to help out and teach! Choral music is alive and well in ENC!!! 🫶🏻🎶

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch, but this was presented at yesterday’s Board of Education meeting as a vision for something needed at NBHS. We are incredibly appreciative to Superintendent Dr. Cheeseman and the BOE for acknowledging that this is a need for our school and for looking into possible solutions, and we hope that this is something we can hopefully turn into a reality in the near future! Stay tuned! ❤️🖤🎶🐻

The New Bern High School Chorus will be hosting a FREE North Carolina High School Honors Chorus preparation clinic on Saturday, 8/29 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at NBHS. We know that this date is early, but we hope that this will give you and your students an opportunity to work on the audition piece ("Awake the Harp" by Haydn) as well as give a little insight about the audition process before the audition registration deadline (Thursday, 9/10).

During the clinic, students will:
-Analyze the official audition rubric so they know exactly what judges are looking for.
-Learn what to expect during the audition process.
-Participate in a large-group vocal technique session.
-Rehearse in sectional groups to strengthen notes, rhythms, diction, dynamics, musicality, and overall performance of the audition piece.
-Work on music literacy skills to help prepare for the sight-reading portion of the audition.
-Participate in individual mock auditions, if time allows.

For now, we are just trying to see what schools and directors will be involved and you will register your students later.
