SUN Tech HOSA Students Promote Breast Cancer Awareness During Open House and Support Local Fundraising
SUN Tech held its open house on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. SUN Tech’s HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) students brought education, creativity, and community service together to raise awareness about breast cancer and support the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.
Students educated community members about breast cancer, prevention, and the importance of knowing what is normal for their own bodies. Their outreach included discussions about monthly breast self-exams and recognizing changes that should be brought to a healthcare provider’s attention. Students emphasized awareness and taking an active role in personal health.
To support their awareness efforts, HOSA organized a friendly competition among SUN Tech’s student programs. Participating programs, including Patient Care Technician (PCT), Nursing Assistant, Advertising Art & Design, and Computer and Networking Technology, created breast cancer awareness displays featuring meaningful messages of hope, education, and support. The competition encouraged schoolwide participation while raising funds for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. The PCT program won the competition, and together, the participating programs raised money.
In addition, the Computer and Networking Technology program created breast cancer awareness keychains, which were sold for $1 each to further support the fundraising effort. If you have an interest in purchasing a keychain, please contact the SUN Tech office. All money made from the keychains will be donated directly to the Breast Cancer Coalition.
The project allowed HOSA students to practice communication, teamwork, and leadership while sharing health information with the community. It also demonstrated how students from different careers and technical programs can work together for a common cause.
SUN Tech HOSA thanks the participating programs and community members who supported the effort. Through education and fundraising, students helped bring attention to breast cancer awareness and showed their support for individuals and families affected by the disease.
