We are digging in to our service learning!

We launched this year's Community Partnership Program last Friday with the 7th and 8th grade volunteering at YMCA Southcoast Sharing the Harvest. This field learning experience is a hands-on way to support local hunger relief while enjoying a rewarding community experience and reminding us all of the value of service.

We are delighted to have over 21 community partners this year with 100% of our 7th and 8th graders out every Friday afternoon helping New Bedford organizations. Learn more about our partnership program: https://www.oursistersschool.org/community-partnerships

Our storybook, "Making Meaning" is now available!

Filled with student voices and artwork, our newest storybook offers a glimpse into the creativity, curiosity, and experiences that shape life at OSS.

And the stories extend beyond the page! Student artwork featured in this publication is also on display digitally at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center starting next week and on display through the end of the year.

Welcome back to OSS, Karla!

We’re thrilled to welcome Karla Acosta ’18 back to the OSS community—this time as a Teaching Fellow!

After graduating from OSS, Karla went on to Brown University, where she recently earned her B.A. with honors, double-concentrating in Modern Culture & Media and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Her interests in media, storytelling, podcasting, and creating space for diverse perspectives have been a thread throughout her education.

For Karla, returning to OSS is a meaningful full-circle moment. "I'm excited to give back to the community that helped me on my own journey and to support a new generation of OSS students as they develop their voices, curiosity, creativity, and confidence."

We couldn’t be happier to welcome another OSS graduate to our staff.

We're growing our dendrites and learning HOW to learn!

Last Friday we held a two-hour, all-school Dendrites Conference focused on increasing our understanding of brain function and becoming metacognitively aware (thinking about our thinking). We’re excited to continue building these skills throughout the school year.

Fresh air, hard work, and incredible community spirit!

Our gardens and outdoor spaces are looking amazing thanks to the volunteers from from Bristol County Savings Bank who joined us today as part of United Way of Greater New Bedford's Day of Caring.

Thank you for pouring your energy and hard work into making our grounds shine! We couldn't do it without community partners like you.

Looking back on an incredible week!

Last week, we had an absolute blast at Brantwood Camp filled with community building, enjoying nature, shared meals, games, bunk life, campfires, and togetherness to set the stage for our year.

That energy carried us right into the start of school this week, and if camp was any indication, this year is going to be amazing. Welcome back, everyone!

We are ready for the start of the school year!

After a few weeks of professional development, we are so excited to launch the 2026–2027 school year. Tomorrow, we’re gearing up for our annual community retreat to Brantwood!

Departure & Schedule
We will gather at the OSS Outdoor Classroom at 8:00 AM, and loaded buses will depart promptly at 8:30 AM. We’ll travel two hours north to the base of Mt. Monadnock and stay at Brantwood Camp for three days of community building, enjoying nature, shared meals, games, bunk life, campfires, and togetherness to set the stage for our year.

Weather & Packing
Wet weather is in the forecast, so please pack rain jackets, waterproof shoes, and extra socks!

Once you graduate from OSS, you're part of our community for life!

We recently had the opportunity to reconnect with our 21+ graduates at a summer celebration at Cisco Brewers. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, catch up on where life has taken everyone, and celebrate their incredible accomplishments.
