☀️ The July issue of the Legacy Ledger just landed in inboxes!

This month, we're spotlighting two Georgetown Elementary School teachers whose combined 76 years in the classroom have shaped generations of NAFC students: Cheryl Carroll (NAHS '70), who just retired after 50 years of teaching, and Marie Leitner (FCHS '91), a former Georgetown student herself who came back to teach in the very room where she sat in third grade.

We're also recapping a record-breaking year for the Play FORE! Education Charity Golf Classic, which raised $126,000 for NAFCS students and educators.

From choir and theatre at Floyd Central to a long career in broadcast journalism, Mike Olmstead (FC '89) built his path through sports reporting, producing, anchoring, and media relations. His career has taken him from Joplin to Fayetteville, Tulsa, Louisville, and back to Joplin, where his work has earned recognition from multiple broadcasting organizations.

A standout runner, student journalist, and WNAS broadcaster at NAHS, Larra Overton (NA '01) carried her love of sports and storytelling into a career in media. Today, she works across Colts media platforms as a producer, host, and reporter for Colts Productions.

Originally featured in our November 2023 Legacy Ledger in honor of Veterans Day, this alumni spotlight shares the story of Jim Dexter, New Albany High School Class of 1968.

After graduating from NAHS, Jim enlisted in the Marines and served in Vietnam. His commitment to service continued long after his years of active duty through decades of leadership with the VFW Hobart Beach Post #1693 and the American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post #28.

From supporting fellow veterans to helping with programs like Toys for Tots, military honors, scholarships, and community events, Jim’s service has made a lasting impact in New Albany and beyond.

Originally featured in our November 2023 Legacy Ledger in honor of Veterans Day, this alumni spotlight shares the story of Scott Ham, Floyd Central High School Class of 1985.

Scott’s path of service began with the Indiana Army National Guard while he was still a student. Over the years, his career included deployments to Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq, leadership roles at Camp Atterbury, and promotion to Command Sergeant Major, the highest rank awarded to noncommissioned Army officers.

Today, Scott continues to serve others through his involvement with 22challenge and its work in su***de awareness, prevention, and training.

Congratulations to the 2026 Floyd Central Alumni Hall of Fame inductees!

The Floyd Central Alumni Association will celebrate this year’s honorees at the Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, August 8, at Floyd Central High School. The evening also supports scholarship fundraising for Floyd Central students.

As principal of Green Valley Elementary from 1956 to 1984, Ted Mossler was known for his steady presence, his deep commitment to reading, and his remarkable ability to know the children in his school.

From summer reading pep rallies to daily classroom visits, Mr. Mossler helped create a school experience that many former students and teachers still remember with great affection.

We’re revisiting this September 2023 Legacy Ledger spotlight to honor one of NAFC’s beloved elementary leaders.

For 36 years, Glenn Barnett helped shape the heart of Lafayette Elementary, now Floyds K***s Elementary.

As principal from 1957 to 1993, he helped shape a school culture rooted in caring, humor and respect.
