New Albany Safety Town recognizes this week as National Stop on Red Week. Stop On Red Week is observed across the country every year during the first full week of August — August 5 to 9 this year — to highlight the significance of red traffic lights and to curb the deaths caused by breaking the red light rule. While following basic traffic rules might seem easy, statistics say at least 50 million people are injured or disabled by road traffic crashes yearly. Today, New Albany Safety Town recognizes International Lifeguard Appreciation Day. It’s a day for honoring and appreciating those professionals who are responsible for ensuring that pool facilities and beaches are safe for visitors and that they are also protected while enjoying a swim. Lifeguards diligently dedicate not only their time but lives to enabling a safe environment for swimmers. They instruct and constantly monitor guests to prevent injury and rescue them from life-threatening accidents. Do you know that about 10,000 people are rescued from drowning yearly by lifeguards? What could be more heroic than that? New Albany Safety Town appreciates the lifeguards at the Plain Township Aquatics Center for educating our campers on how to stay safe and have fun at the pool!

Since 2024, New Albany Safety Town Camp has welcomed the Ohio Optometric Association Realeyes Program into our classrooms to educate campers on eye safety and health. This dedicated group of Optometrists and assistants educates and entertains our campers through animated stories and songs, promoting the importance of eye care.
