Tiffany Holmes ’19 came to Cottey with a plan. By the time she left, she had a better one!

At 27, Tiffany was ready to leave her culinary career behind and pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Thanks to the Women’s Leadership Scholarship, she enrolled in Cottey’s Foundations in Leadership class. The curriculum sparked an unexpected interest in leadership, but a conversation during spring break gave her an entirely new perspective.

While visiting a former instructor in Sarasota, FL, they heard about Tiffany’s background and future plans and remarked, “We’ve got to get her here to teach.”

That comment stuck. As a nontraditional student who was also thinking about starting a family, Tiffany began to see teaching as a way to bring her experience and future goals together.

With guidance from Dr. Carol Clyde, she mapped out a plan to earn her bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership in just one additional year.

Looking back, Tiffany shared, “By graduation, everything felt aligned and purposeful.”

Sometimes, the path forward isn’t the one you planned, but the one that brings your experiences, priorities, and passions together in unexpected ways.

There’s something special about fall at Cottey. 🍂

The changing leaves, crisp autumn air, walks across campus, and memories made with friends that last a lifetime.
For our alumnae, fall on campus may bring back memories of late-night conversations, walks to Radio Springs Park, GP, Dottey Cottey, or other campus traditions.

What’s one of your favorite fall memories from your time at Cottey? We would love to see them in the comments!

Delilah Duck has her ducks in a row and is ready to welcome the Cottey College Alumnae Association to campus this weekend!

Delilah is one of Cottey’s newest additions to campus. She spends most of her time on the porch of Main Hall but occasionally can be found in other locations on campus. 💛💙

The DJ tradition is still going strong!

We often get asked: “Is the Duck Jacket (DJ) tradition still happening at Cottey?”

Absolutely! In fact, the tradition is expanding! Today’s students will have the opportunity to create their own DJs - personalized with pins and patches that celebrate their Cottey experience - that they can take with them when they graduate.

And for those who love the classic pass-down DJs, Dottey’s Cottey Closet will allow students to borrow these cherished pieces of Cottey history, keeping the tradition of passing them down alive.💛

The process may evolve, but the meaning remains the same: a DJ is a wearable piece of Cottey history, friendship, and pride.

We love seeing this tradition grow while honoring the DJs generations of Cottey students have treasured.

We hope alumnae join in and create their own DJs, too! 💙

We love hearing stories about how Cottey professors and academics influence your life. 💙💛

Sometimes, a professor can see something in you before you see it in yourself.

During organic chemistry lab Whitney Heim ’83 hit a wall.

Her professor, Dr. Fowler, saw that she was struggling and stepped in. Together, they worked through the experiment, turning a frustrating lab into an experience Whitney would remember for the rest of her life.

“What stuck with me the most was realizing how small class sizes and genuine relationships with professors changed my self-perception. I learned I was quite smart, something I hadn’t truly understood before coming to Cottey.”

That's the Cottey difference: you don’t just leave with a degree. You have discovered a part of yourself you didn't know was there.
