Congratulations to Lucas Cardenas for his successful completion of the Air Force JROTC Flight Academy program and earning his private pilot’s license this summer. The Flight Academy is an 8-week summer aviation training program, conducted at partnering universities nationwide to inspire and encourage high school youth toward aviation careers. The scholarship program is a collaborative effort between the aerospace industry and the Air Force to address a national pilot shortage. This scholarship is valued at $25,000! Lucas earned his private pilot’s license from the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. There is no military service obligation with this training. We hope to continue our success next year in Flight Academy selects.

To date, we have had four Nevada High School Air Force JROTC cadets earn their Private Pilot's license through this program (Tanner Klotz, Tyler Vance, Allison Olson, and Lucas Cardenas).

Those interested students/cadets who will be at least 17 in June 2027 can apply for next year’s scholarship. Selection criteria is the Aviation Qualification Test, fitness assessment, and recommendation from the Senior Instructor and school administrators. Additionally, we have a Ground Instructor here at the school and offer an Aviation Honors Ground School to help cadets prepare for this program. Furthermore, new students interested in this program are not required to take any other class in JROTC if they are enrolled in this Honors class. They get Honors credit, the full benefits of JROTC activities, and a chance to earn a private pilot’s license. Talk to your counselor to sign up for JROTC!
