NEVADA SCHOLAR BOWL OPEN PRACTICES

The new Scholar Bowl season is about to start!

Nevada High School Scholar Bowl will hold open practices for students who want to join the team. These practices offer an opportunity to meet the team, learn how Scholar Bowl works, and get a sense of what it is like to compete for NHS.

You don't need to have participated in Scholar Bowl before. We want students who are curious, willing to learn, ready to put in the effort, and interested in challenging themselves as part of a team.

Returning players, this is your opportunity to get back behind the buzzers and start preparing for the season ahead.

New players, you don't need to walk through the door knowing everything. Come ready to learn, compete, and see what Scholar Bowl has to offer.

Open Practices:
Monday, 8/31, 3:15-5:30
Thursday, 9/3, 5:15-7:30

Location: NHS Computer Lab

If you know a Nevada High School student who is academically curious, enjoys competition, loves learning, or who you think would be a great fit for Scholar Bowl, encourage them to come to an Open Practice and give it a try.

We’ve got one more player to introduce to you this year - sophomore Ethan Copsey! We asked him a few questions:

How many years have you been playing scholar bowl (middle and high school)?
"Four."

What categories do you think are your best?
"Science and sports."

What are your favorite subjects at NHS?
"Science and history."

What do you like most about scholar bowl?
“Being able to compete against very good teams from Springfield and Kansas City, and sometimes even beating them. Another thing that I like is the bonding between my teammates and me over the course of the year.”

What’s your favorite moment in scholar bowl?
“My personal favorite moment is when we were in a playoff game late in the day and down by over 50 points and came back to win on the last question.”

What are you most looking forward to this season?
“I am looking forward to being able to compete in bigger tournaments and getting better as the year goes on.”

Literature and Pop Culture.

What are your favorite subjects at NHS?
English and Math.

What do you like most about scholar bowl?
“Making connections — but also getting to be a part of something that can help you grow and learn.”

What’s your favorite moment in scholar bowl?
“Competitions, while waking up early sometimes can be hard its always worth it.”

What are you most looking forward to this season?
“Seeing how far we can go and how much I can learn and grow.”

Back at the MAIN in March, Coach Townsend passed 300 career wins as the head coach of Nevada Scholar Bowl! Unfortunately, we didn’t have another home event to celebrate so we enjoyed celebrating tonight at our EOY Party! Thanks to Coach Townsend for his dedication and leadership to NHS Scholar Bowl, to all the NHS Scholar Bowl kids who have been a part of the program these past 7 years and thanks to Olive Street Bakery for adding a yummy treat to our celebration!

"Since sixth grade, so I’m on my fifth year."

What categories do you think are your best?
"Math comp and pop culture."

What are your favorite subjects at NHS?
"Mathematics, Fine Arts"

What do you like most about scholar bowl?
“Spending time with other nerds.”

What are you most looking forward to this season?
“Winning every game.”

Tonight’s Student vs. Staff Scholar Bowl game was a big success!

Thank you to all the staff members who volunteered to play and made the event so much fun for our students. The match was close, but in the end, the Staff Team won 560-480!

The staff team MVP was a tie between Ms. Baker and Mr. Rea, and we'd also like to congratulate Mr. Miner and Mr. White on some solid knowledge about literature AND professional wrestling!

Our students had a blast, and we’re very grateful for a school community that always supports activities like this. Congrats on a great game, and enjoy that trophy while you can!
