During Cottey's two-week term, Dr. Stubblefield was able to teach a section of Step into Cottey, our first-year experience class. She had a great group of new students and a wonderful peer mentor to help prepare them to succeed at Cottey! We concluded the class by traveling to one of three Immersion sites: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO; Wonders of Wildlife (including a shark dissection!) in Springfield, MO; and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and The Dub women’s sports bar/restaurant in Kansas City, MO! These students are ready for the fall fourteen-week term that begins tomorrow! We are so happy to welcome them into the Cottey community!

The English Department is excited to welcome Dr. Fain Riopelle to our program! Dr. Riopelle will be teaching Writing courses, including our first-year writing courses. Dr. Riopelle received his B.A. in creative writing from Hamilton College, his M.A. in English with a concentration in Teaching Literature and Writing from the University of Virginia, and his Ph.D. in English with a concentration in Rhetoric from Indiana University, Bloomington. Welcome to Cottey, Dr. Riopelle!

Another Convocation in the books! The English department is especially excited to welcome Dr. Fain Riopelle to the Writing program and to start working with our students! It's going to be a great year!

Happy birthday to Zelda Fitzgerald, born on this day in 1900! Cottey students were able to study her life and work, and stay in her house in Montgomery, Alabama, as part of the _Great Gatsby_ at 100 Excursion class!

Congratulations to Chloe Bollin on joining the Nevada Public Library Board! Chloe was an English minor (WGS major and French minor) at Cottey! And congratulations to Denise Carrick Hedges on completing her term as president of the Board! Denise often teaches--and plays a big role in organizing events for--our first-year writing classes. Her leadership of the Board has been exemplary!
