A bowl can hold a story, as well as soup. This one was sitting in amongst hundreds at the Empty Bowl Benefit two years ago. It was made by a guest of Hospitality House who learned the pottery technique from a local artist. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one. I treasure it...
Today from noon to 2:00 and 5:00-7:00 at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley is the once-a-year chance to choose a bowl, choose a story, fill your bowl, and sit with community. It is also the 50th anniversary of the March from Selma to Montgomery. The homeless shelter that is operated by Hospitality House is called "Utah's Place" after U. Utah Phillips. I think it's a good day to go eat some soup.

HUGE thanks to all the river lovers, FtG students and staff, and Ridge community who cleaned the mining claim camp on the Middle Yuba last weekend. Visit the FtG blog at blog.findingthegood.org for inspiring essays about the effort, and more photos.

It is a privilege to do this work. I am deeply grateful that we all have the health, strength, personal resources and freedom to clean this beautiful river and restore it (close to) the state it was in before it was polluted by someone who needs not our disgust, but our compassion. Thank you. There are millions who are suffering and would give anything to do what we did today and share what we shared. To give back in service is the highest honor of all. Thank you for another beautiful day.

Finding the Good and friends complete Day 1 of two days on the Middle Fork Yuba despite the rain. We had a blast, ferrying the heavy metal mining debris and just plain garbage across the river in our trusty old raft and hiking it out in custom made litters half a mile on a narrow trail to a waiting dump truck. Come join us tomorrow September 22 and join the camaraderie and fun!
