Here’s some construction images of the six-pool table pockets that I was commissioned to recreate, for a vintage (100+ year old) slate table.

Due to the delayed refurbishment of the entire table, my part of the overall project was shelved until we completed our cross country move to Nevada City.

That said, other than some minor reassembly and pocket wet-forming, I’ve now completed my portion of the table rebuild. These pockets are to be delivered back to the client in two weeks.

A basic, yet made to order daily wear belt. I only had a day to make this belt for a family member, hence… no tooling. Nor did he want any aesthetic tooling on it, other than my Makers Mark.

About 8-hours to; Pick up the new buckle from the Sacramento-Tandy, measure his exact belt length, cut out the pieces, apply the two-tone dye via airbrush, cement on the new backing liner strip (also from Tandy), sew on the liner, and rivet on the buckle and keeper loop.

As you can see, I haven’t replenished my supply stock since our recent cross country move.

He picked the color tones, before he had to catch his flight back to Colorado.

A straightforward upgrade was performed on a 'Hunter 1150 holster', performed between other more complex projects. The client requested that the holster be refurbished to a more professional standard, to which I responded affirmatively.

The process entailed bevelling all edges, smoothing with 210 grit sandpaper, dyeing the edges with Fiebing's Dark Brown Pro Dye, wetting and burnishing the edges for a shiny smooth finish, applying a Tokonole sealer coat, and buffing smooth with a canvas cloth.

Due to the complexity of the belt loop layers and angles, achieving a perfectly straight emboss proved challenging, yet the maker's mark stamp held surprisingly well. A final layer of Skidmores Leather Cream was applied to enhance the leather's softness and appearance. Zzz

This project is now complete, and the item is ready for packaging and shipment to back to North Carolina.

When I asked my friend Dave about the knife's history, I discovered that Dave’s grandfather was of Welsh descent and a devout individual, which led us to adopt a Celtic theme.

Consequently, we incorporated a Celtic cross and Celtic-knot basket stamp as highlights on the front panel.

Additionally, I tooled the Welsh National flag on the back panel, and added faux sinew edge lashing as a finishing touch to give the sheath a vintage Celtic appeal.

To achieve intricate background details, I made a minute crevice backgrounder out of an old stamp that worn down and lost its impression ability. The minute backgrounder was then small enough to fit within the compact areas of the 1 1/2”x2 1/4” red dragon's head and talons, as well as the intricate Celtic cross design.

A standard application of Fiebing's Medium Brown Antique Finish was applied over the tooling to enhance the aged appearance, ensuring a harmonious match with the vintage patina of the knife.

The last step was to airbrush a clear-coat application of Angelus-Matte Acrylic Finish to the entire sheath.

This modest leather sheath request was temporarily put on hold while we settled into Nevada City. The request originated from a former coworker, who now resides in North Carolina.

The knife in question, an aged hunting knife previously owned by my colleague's grandfather, was discovered on the floorboards of his grandfather's vintage pickup truck following his passing.

Given its condition, with a loose handle that didn’t align with the pommel and guard, a rusted blade bearing grinding wheel marks, and an edge too dull to justify it’s classification as a “Hunting Knife”, restoration was inevitable, in my book!

For those of you familiar with my Virgo mindset, it was evident that restoration would take precedence over sheath design and current creation.

Please await the forthcoming creation of the knife sheath, which is nearing completion.

My newfound friend and safe officiant-Tom Walski at ‘Mustang Sporting Goods’ in Grass Valley, is already sending holster restoration work my way.

In this instance, I’m strengthening a dried out and torn Mexican Loop Holster for a Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector 3rd Generation Model 32-20 cal.

Thanks Tom, I’m looking forward to what you and your long list of clients will bring my way next.
