Neskowin Valley School is nestled beside Cascade Head in Slab Creek’s green valley, a few miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The setting, on five acres surrounded by creeks, meadows and woods, means that we also readily honor the lessons of nature, including reciprocity, regeneration, abundance and balance. We teach familiarity with and respect for all creatures, and build upon hands-on, face-to

-face experiences in order to teach understanding for the diversity of the larger world. We emphasize stewardship for the land and awareness of our dependence on nature for sustenance and inspiration. Adults here work together to model the intellectual curiosity, responsibility, openness and integrity we seek in every child who enrolls. The school building, once a dairy barn, has since 1972 opened its doors to people from all walks of life. A generation of joyful learning and warm community is reflected in the frequent first impressions of visitors to the school, who say, “I’ve only dreamed that a school like this existed!”

September is rolling in, and it brought the rain with it… so why not go see a movie?

Even better, your movie night can support Neskowin Valley School!

All September long, $3 from every recliner seat ticket at the Bijou Theatre will be donated to NVS as part of their Recliners for Relief program.

So grab some popcorn, settle into a cozy recliner, and escape the rain for a couple of hours. You’ll be supporting local students while you’re at it!

A big thank you to the Bijou Theatre for choosing NVS as September’s featured nonprofit and for continuing to give back to our community.

Then and now, our teachers have been at the heart of Neskowin Valley School.

As we reach the halfway point of in-service week, our teachers are busy building curriculum, planning projects, preparing classrooms, and creating meaningful learning experiences for the year ahead. These photos, taken decades apart, are a beautiful reminder that while our school continues to grow and evolve, the heart of our work remains the same: dedicated teachers helping our children learn, explore, and grow.

We are so grateful for the creativity, care, and thoughtfulness our teachers bring to this community. We cannot wait to welcome our students back and begin another year of learning together!
