Remembering WW II – Allies Liberate Paris from the Germans
On August 25, 1944, the Allies liberated Paris from German occupation, overcoming German control of the city for over 4 years. Unable to stop French and American armor units coming in from south of Paris, the German commander in Paris, General Choltitz, surrendered to the French. Massive celebrations by the liberation forces followed thereafter.
