Our wonderful staff member Kim Kreimann has some updates on Sophia, our educational saw-whet owl. "Sophia's yearly molt is almost complete and she is stunning with her fresh feathers. This is the time of year saw-whet owls fly south from Canada to spend winters in WI, so they have a nice new set of feathers for the trip. During her molt, Sophia will eat two mice nightly as she needs the extra energy for feather production. She is also due for a talon and beak trim which the rehabber will be doing in the next few weeks."
