Happy Holidays Soccer Family!

As everyone is planning for the coming year, as this one comes to a close, we wanted to get a couple of dates on your 2026 calendars.

One of our parents helped us get our foot in the door with Rapids Rafters. Nekoosa Soccer will be running the 50/50 raffle for the Rafters on the nights of July 4th,2026 and Aug 6th, 2026. This is a great opportunity for our program to do something easy, fun, and make some money.

We hope to see as much of our soccer family and also hope we all have a great time. Invite your own family and friends! Rafters tickets can be found here if your player is working, but you want to enjoy the game!

We will need to have at least five players and a few parents to help for each game. Coach Goody will be there for both nights working.

A big thank you to the parent that helped find the opportunity, and an equally big thank you to the Rafters!

Have a great Holiday!

On Wednesday, soccer will do concussion testing from 2-2:30 on the turf. Please send your athletes to school with a cell phone that day, and make sure they have downloaded the app called Sway Medical.

Tuesday Hosting the Dells 6 PM start

Nekoosa went 2-1 today with our only loss coming against the tournament champion.

Nekoosa 0 - 3 River Valley
Nekoosa 1 - 0 Berlin
Nekoosa 2 - 0 Lomira

I can't tell you what I expected. I can tell you I hoped to manage minutes and health. I didn't know what people would do with some more position changes still sitting in a new formation playing with a short bench.

Here is what happened. Every player continued to make small detailed improvements. Maybe as a fan you cannot see it, but those little conversations about positioning and movement are paying huge dividends. The kids are so coachable.

Truthfully, the kids performed above my expectations. That points to one thing, the effort required from wanting it more. There is the truth, your kids, your athletes, your Papermakers just play harder than their opponents. They won today because they wanted it more. That has nothing to do with coaching, technique, or tactics. That is just the grit those players have.

They keep finding a way.

5-2-1, good start. We aren't done.

7:45 bus tomorrow morning! Bring both home and away. There are concessions, or send them with snacks and a lunch. It can be a long day.

Nekoosa 0 - 8 Rippon

Tonight we played a quality Rippon squad currently ranked 2nd in the state. Tip of the cap to a team that was as advertised. It is good to have such a quality team as a part of our conference. We wish them luck the rest of the season.

I didn't exactly know our chances, but I told the team that today would be about challenges and adversity. How will we handle every situation when it happens.

To my seniors, you never stopped. You are angry. You wanted to hold on. You were playing for pride. You showed me what I needed to see, and it tells me everything I need to know about you.

To the rest of the squad. You don't have as many years invested. It doesn't need to mean as much to you as the seniors. It still did. Your shoulders never slumped. When you got beat, you turned and ran harder. The character of this team moving forward will not be in question.

We currently have a captain riding the bench with injury. That captain looked at me and told me that just by watching this game, they know who the captains should be next year. That's my highlight. We had people out there, that left it all out there, and the team knows who those people are.

We will keep finding a way.

I have a whole team of players that are not satisfied.

Nekoosa 2 - 2 Berlin

Played Berlin to a draw tonight, all the goals early. Injury bug had everyone out of position. Kids wanted that win so bad.

I have talked about competitors before. Those people that literally leave it all out there. You look around, and there are people in sports that think they are tired or think they hurt. Then I look at some of the kids that were playing tonight, what they gave, and the pain they were playing through. If every athlete understood that level grit.

I am a lucky coach. I have a number of players that have that level of grit. Younger players get to see what effort looks like, and it usually changes their definition.

This team, in a tough situation, gritted out a point. They found a way. Be proud of your athletes.

Papermaker Pride

I am going to double check with our AD, but I am assuming this will put us at a 7:45ish bus departure.

Nekoosa 3 - 1 Wautoma

Always a rivalry game for us. Mark it on the calendar, and we are looking at it. This year, no home and away in conference making each conference game that much more important. Conference opener. We had plenty of reasons that we wanted this one.

People in new positions. New people. Replacing last years graduates with freshman. Every single person doing their job. Each player, even the substitutes have roles. What they bring and how they make us better.

1 - 1 at halftime, and we found a way. What I loved as a coach is how our opponents retreated into a shell towards the end of the game, but we kept pushing. We won 50/50 balls. We made extra runs. We worked harder to get back on D. Those that played all hobbled to the bus, but before the final whistle they didn't complain, they just played harder. Proud of that.

We had more possession, completed more passes, created more opportunities. We had some mistakes, and we made some corrections. Found a few things to tweak for the next game.

Great game. Team effort.

Tomorrow will be a recovery practice no more than one hour. Practice should be over by 4:30. Statics, dynamics, light team jog, statics, go home, and get ready to do it all over again next week.

Proud of this team, they found a way
