Teaching Philosophy
My personal belief about children and learning is that they are active learners and that they learn best through play. I provide a creative learning environment consisting of well-chosen, open ended and imaginative resources. Children can develop thinking language, imagination, speaking and listening skills as well as a feeling of empathy through creative play. My intention and

goals are that every time children come to my family childcare, they feel loved, safe, nurtured, and have fun. Families are their first educators, so I believe that it’s important to take time to help children express who they are. I encourage parents to share their own philosophy so that we can learn from each other on how we can provide the best care for their children. Children are encouraged to express their emotions and give names to how they feel in a manner that is respectful to others. We promote anti-bias and cultural responsiveness by sharing my own experiences and helping children to develop their self-awareness, confidence, identity and self-esteem. I’m hoping that not only they will learn their numbers and letters but that they will also learn how to be kind, find confidence within themselves and to be accepting of everyone’s differences.

We get into trouble when we start treating childhood like a race.
As if there’s a stopwatch running.
As if being “ahead” means winning, and “behind” means failing.

But children are not machines on a conveyor belt of milestones. They are human beings, unfolding at the pace their mind, body, and spirit are ready for.

One child will pick up books early.
Another will spend hours stacking blocks.
Another will crouch in the garden, utterly absorbed by the way ants carry crumbs.
Different rhythms. Different gifts. Different ways of making sense of the world.

Each is learning. Each is right on time.

When we rush them, we send the message that who they are now isn’t enough. That love waits on achievement. That life is about keeping up.

But when we honour their pace, we give them something more powerful than being “ahead” — we give them the foundation of safety, curiosity, and confidence that will carry them for life.

Childhood isn’t a finish line to cross.
It’s the ground on which a whole life will stand.

And the stronger and steadier that ground, the further they will go. ❤️
