It’s official: Olin College professors are #1. 👏

In The Princeton Review‘s “The Best 392 Colleges: 2027 Edition,” Olin earned the top ranking for “Professors Get High Marks,” jumping from No. 6 last year.

Olin also earned:

What happens when a classroom project becomes published research?

At Olin, it means identifying a barrier to hands-on learning, designing a solution with the people who will use it, testing that solution in a real course, and sharing what you learn with the broader community. 🛠️📝⚡️

Olin student Emily Boyd ’28 recently presented “Removing Barriers to Circuit Prototyping with an Adaptive Breadboard,” a paper co-authored with Olin Professor Emily W. Tow, at the Canadian Engineering Education Association ( ) conference.

The project began in Olin’s ISIM course, where Emily and Professor Tow co-designed an adaptive breadboard to enable a student to independently build circuits without being limited by fine motor skills. The oversized breadboard worked for most course assignments and made it possible for the student to participate in the course similarly to their peers, while also revealing challenges that informed the team’s learning and future design.

👉The result is more than a classroom project. It’s published that contributes to a broader conversation about how accessible tools can expand access to experiential learning.

Even though it’s summer, the learning doesn’t stop at Olin. On Thursday, student researchers (and faculty) presented a variety of interesting projects they’ve been working on over the past 10-weeks.

Customizable gait tracking, RAG pipelines, qualitative data analysis, CAD tools for growing vine robots, and much more.

Watch as the researchers share their projects and one thing they learned.

Robotics has the potential to help address some of the world's most pressing challenges, but every community has different needs, opportunities, and priorities. 🤖

That's why understanding the local robotics landscape matters.

A new report from the African Robotics Network (AfROB), The State of Robotics in Africa, helps map the continent's rapidly growing robotics ecosystem and highlights opportunities for research, education, entrepreneurship, and collaboration across Africa and the world. The report was spearheaded by Olin robotics professor Kenechukwu C. Mbanisi, executive director of AfROB, in partnership with researchers and innovators from across the continent.

"We took an ecosystem approach because robotics isn't just about building robots," says Mbanisi. "It's about the people who develop them, the institutions that educate future engineers, the industries that use them, and the policies that shape how these technologies are deployed."

Twenty-five years ago, Olin's founding partner students helped build a new model of engineering education. Today, students in the Kyiv School of Economics' (KSE) Delta Engineering program are helping build one of their own.

In June, Ihor S., a KSE Delta Engineering partner student, visited Olin to meet with students spending the summer on campus to share stories and to explore opportunities for future collaboration. 🤝🌎

Their conversations ranged from using drones in Ukrainian agriculture to scaling student projects, pursuing passion projects, and identifying pathways to funding. More importantly, they began building relationships that could lead to meaningful collaboration in the year ahead. We're excited to see where these connections lead!

Remembering William B. Norden: A Friend and Founder.

William B. Norden, founding member and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Olin College of Engineering, passed away early last week after a short illness. Bill influenced generations of Olin graduates, staff and faculty, and we are immensely grateful.
