What does the value of an engineering education look like across different disciplines? 🤔 🧰

In our earlier comparison using The New York Times' interactive college earnings guide, Olin College had the highest reported median earnings among six institutions for engineering graduates, at $135,136 four years after graduation. We took the comparison a step further, looking at outcomes across a group of peer institutions.

Olin’s reported earnings remain at the top of the comparison, offering another perspective on the career outcomes gained with an Olin education.

One important note: The NYT tool categorizes Olin’s program(s) as “Engineering, General,” rather than allowing a selection of mechanical engineering specifically. The comparison therefore reflects Olin’s reported engineering earnings alongside the mechanical engineering figures shown for other institutions.

👉 It’s another encouraging look at the opportunities Oliners pursue and the futures they build.

What does the value of an engineering education look like four years after graduation? 🎓 📈

A new interactive guide from The New York Times, “A College-by-College Guide to Which Majors Pay Off—or Don’t,” offers one perspective.

Using the tool to compare Olin College of Engineering with five peer institutions, we found that Olin’s engineering program had the highest reported median earnings in the group: $135,136 four years after graduation.

It’s just one tangible data point in the ongoing story of where an Olin education can take our graduates. 🚀

Olin College of Engineering formally inaugurated R. May Lee as its third President on Friday, September 25 in a ceremony centered on the theme, “Co-Authoring the Living Blueprint.” It was a fitting frame for an afternoon that highlighted just how many voices have shaped, and will continue to shape, Olin's story. 📖 ✍️ 💙

Guests of the College, which included faculty, students, trustees, alumni, family and friends, gathered to celebrate not just a new president, but a shared commitment to keep building the College together.

“Olin is the purple thread in the white cloth that is higher-ed,” President Lee shared from the podium. Olin exists to try things that larger, more established institutions cannot, and to share what it learns with others. “The point of the purple thread is always to bring attention to the beauty of the rest of the cloth,” she added.

Alumna-Led National Math Stars to Receive $30 Million National Science Foundation (NSF) Investment to Support Exceptional Young Math Students

National Math Stars (NMS), founded by CEO Ilana Walder-Biesanz ’13, announced that the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP) will invest $30 million to expand its work identifying and supporting mathematically exceptional young students.

Olin students, alumni, and their families got to rolling up their sleeves and making (and taking) during this year’s Alumni & Family Weekend. 🍯☕️

Attendees were able to “Choose Your Own Adventure” (CYOA), during the annual fall event, with options like learning all about sustainable beekeeping practices from Prof. Ben Linder and his helpers while uncapping wax comb and spinning out honey in a centrifugal extractor.

Another CYOA was a drop in at the The Olin Shop to create a personalized memento of the weekend (a special Return to the Oval mug).

[Event NEWS] Olin President R. May Lee in Conversation with Alfred Engelberg: A thought-provoking conversation

On Thursday, September 24, 2026, Olin College of Engineering President R May Lee led a thought-provoking conversation in the Olin Library with Alfred Engelberg, author of Breaking the Medicine Monopolies, whose groundbreaking work helped establish the modern generic drug industry.

Inspired by Engleberg's book, the lively discussion in front of students, staff, and faculty, examined how , law, policy and can work together to expand access to medicines while fostering innovation. Attendees also received a copy of Engelberg’s book, compliments of Olin College Catalyst, Olin’s student-run hub for entrepreneurship. 📊📚
