What is glass fusing? 🤔

At its core, glass fusing is the process of permanently joining compatible pieces of glass together by heating them in a kiln to temperatures between 1,300–1,500°F. As the glass softens, the molecules begin to move, allowing separate pieces to become one solid sheet. Depending on the temperature and firing schedule, the glass can fully fuse, tack fuse, or slump into a mold to create endless shapes and textures.

But here’s the thing…

Glass fusing is equal parts science and art.

Every firing schedule, glass thickness, compatibility test, and kiln cycle matters. Understanding heat work, annealing, thermal expansion, and the physics of glass is what separates consistently beautiful work from cracked, devitrified, or poorly fired pieces.

It’s hard to believe that when these students first joined us, many if them had never cut a piece of glass.

This week, we wrapped up our 8-Week Stained Glass Session, and we couldn’t be more proud.

Over the last two months, we’ve watched these newbies transform into confident artists. They’ve learned to trust the process, embrace mistakes, sharpen their skills, and develop the precision and craftsmanship that stained glass demands.

But what makes us the proudest isn’t just the beautiful panels they’ve created…

It’s watching them become self-sufficient.

They’ve graduated from relying on an instructor for every step to confidently planning projects, solving problems, and working independently with the professionalism of true glass artists.

That confidence doesn’t happen by accident—it comes from showing up week after week, putting in the work, and refusing to give up when things get challenging.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t learning a new technique… it’s simply showing up.

One of our students came to class after having an incredibly difficult day. She could have stayed home. She could have called it quits. Instead, she chose to walk through our doors, surround herself with creativity, and finish what she started.

And we’re so glad she did. ❤️

The pieces in this video are just a glimpse of everything she created throughout our Glass Fusing Masterclass. Each one tells the story of weeks spent learning, experimenting, making mistakes, celebrating breakthroughs, and discovering what she’s capable of.
