DeWine just signed senate bill 215 which takes effect in 91 days. That bill allows two things.

1. Permitless open or concealed carry. Same rules apply as far as owning a firearm. No felonies, no mental incapacities, must be 21, not a fugitive, must be a US citizen, etc.

However, you don’t need to take the class or even apply for a permit. You can carry any firearm concealed or open. THIS IS OHIO STATE LAW. That means that this law does not allow constitutional carry across all states. You will still need a permit to carry in many states as required by their laws.

2. You no longer have the duty to immediately inform an officer if contacted. For example, during a traffic stop. It appears that you only need to inform if directly asked.

We will continue to offer classes for those who want to learn how to properly carry and use a firearm. Just because you can carry a firearm by state law doesn’t mean you’re capable to do so.

Both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly are plodding forward on legislation to waive training requirements to carry a concealed weapon.

OVERCOME.

We held our first Intro to Pistols clinic this past weekend which was designed for any level of shooter. We had students that ranged from lifelong gun owners to a few who had never touched a firearm. This young man owns a number of fi****ms but has never received formal training. Notice his grip looks slightly different from the "master grip" which is the most widely accepted technique for gripping a handgun. We worked with him to create a stable but comfortable platform that gives him the maximum advantage in a defensive shooting situation. We are proud and honored to work with those who have physical obstacles.

This student is ex-military and we're thankful for his service in the middle east. He received the highest level of carbine training and was assigned a sidearm but had little training with it. Fast forward a few years to civilian life and he was ready to learn how to properly use and carry his pistol.

When he arrived, every shot was significantly high. After about an hour of stance and grip dry-fire drills with one our of LEO instructors, he was making tight, smooth groups on a 6" target. He left with confidence and is ready to defend his life and family.
