🎉 MAJOR NEWS FOR NAUGATUCK PUBLIC SCHOOLS! 🎉

The Connecticut State Department of Education just released the latest statewide assessment and attendance results, and Naugatuck was chosen as 1 of only 4 school districts in the entire state to present our progress! 🏆✨

Our District Performance Index showed steady growth across English Language Arts, Math, and Science, with our High Needs students making the greatest gains and narrowing every achievement gap. Our ongoing efforts to improve attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism are also showing real, meaningful results. 📈💪

This statewide spotlight belongs to our entire community: the incredible teachers, staff, administrators, students, and families who show up every day and bring our guiding compass to life:

Learn. Thrive. Belong.

What an incredible way to kick off the new school year. We are so proud of our Greyhounds! 🐾❤️

After soaring to new heights all summer long, NPS Summer Enrichment and ESY have officially touched down! What an incredible flight it's been.

This week, we're celebrating three outstanding Pilots of the Week:

🏅 Mason Miro — a true helper in the classroom who has done a great job following school expectations.

🏅 Mrs. Litke — bringing positive energy every day and motivating both students and colleagues alike.

🏅 Ms. Kiniry — our student support standout, helping students in both ESY and Enrichment fly to new heights.

And to send our amazing students off in style, our Summer School staff put together a special farewell video — a fun way to look back on all the memories made this summer! 🎬

Thank you to our incredible students and staff for making this summer flight one to remember. Until next time — safe travels! ✈️💙

Our students have been showing what it means to Learn, Thrive, and Belong. Every time a teacher caught one of these moments, that student earned a Stitch Coin.

The deal was simple: earn enough coins as a school, and Stitch would fly all the way from Hawaii to visit us himself.

Well... our students didn't just meet the goal. They blew right past it. 🚀

And because of that, we got the surprise of the year: Stitch came all the way to see our Summer Ohana — which, as Stitch taught us, means family. 💙

✈️ We're also celebrating our Pilots of the Week! ✈️

Olivia Rebisz — a student who may be camera shy, but brings a positive and optimistic energy to everything she does. 🌟

Mrs. Kelly Kane — one of the kindest and hardest-working teachers in Naugatuck Public Schools! 💙

So proud of every single student who showed up for each other this year, and grateful for staff like Mrs. Kane who make our school what it is. This is what Ohana is all about: nobody gets left behind, and nobody gets forgotten. 🤙

Today, NPS Summer Enrichment and ESY are celebrating the incredible drivers who get our students where they need to go — safely, reliably, and with a smile. Rain or shine, our bus and van drivers are the first friendly faces our students see each morning and the last ones they wave goodbye to each afternoon.

To all our NPS drivers: thank you for keeping our students safe on the road every single day. We appreciate you! 🙌

We’re taking off into another great week of Summer Enrichment/Extended School Year, which means another awesome guest for a career talk! This week, our classes are learning all about the science of flight, so Mr. Labansky, an engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft, came in to teach us all about helicopters! Our students learned all about the almost 500 different types of helicopters, which ones Sikorsky builds every day, and the many skills needed to create and provide these crucial vehicles to our military and other commercial organizations, like math, reading, and writing. Our students even got to take hats and pictures of helicopters home to share with their families what they learned.

Thank you, Mr. Labansky! We are grateful for you taking time to come in, educate our students on your awesome career path, and answer their questions.

We were so caught up in the excitement of Disney Day, we didn’t get a chance to announce our Summer Enrichment and Extended School Year Staff and Student Pilots of the Week from Week 2!

It is our pleasure to announce that Kevin Alcover from Mr. Kozlowski’s class is the Student Pilot of the Week for working hard, being kind to others, and always trying his best! We are also thrilled to award our Staff Pilot of the Week to Mrs. Nemeth, who was chosen for being positive, energetic, and incredibly dedicated to helping our students Learn, Thrive, Belong and Fly to New Heights!

Congratulations to you both!

✨The Most Magical Day of the Summer ✨

Summer Enrichment and Extended School Year celebrated Disney Day, with a special visit from everyone’s favorite Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear, a Moana themed scavenger hunt around the school, and a highly energetic and competitive trivia game of matching Disney songs to their movies. It was the perfect way to celebrate the halfway point of our summer programs and spread a little magic around the building to end the second week of Summer Enrichment and Extended School Year!

Just because it's summer doesn't mean we stop appreciating and shouting out our incredible staff! Today, we are highlighting Mrs. Kotsaftis, who can normally be found at City Hill Middle School as their Reading Specialist during the school year, and is also currently serving as the incredible Principal of our Extended School Year Program! Check out this amazing nomination submitted for Mrs. Kotsaftis:

"Mrs. Kotsaftis, better known as Ms. K, was new to City Hill Middle School after coming over from Salem Elementary School this past school year and you’d think she has been there for years. The bonds she’s made with co-workers and students is amazing in such a short period of time. She opens her room to everyone like they are family. She goes above and beyond in everything she does and anyone who has ever had the chance to learn anything from her is blessed."

Thank you for everything you do year round, Ms. K! We are beyond lucky to have you in our NPS community.

As part of our Summer Enrichment/Extended School Year theme weeks, we are thrilled to welcome visitors to speak about their real world experiences and jobs to inspire our students and encourage their exploration of various career fields.

This week is Disney Week, and we were so excited to have Mr. Kosko, husband of Paraeducator Mrs. Kosko, come in to speak about his job as a Technical Director at ESPN, which our students learned is owned by Disney! Students from Mrs. Heady-Labansky and Miss Healy’s classes were amazing listeners and asked very thoughtful questions about life working in sports media, how the livestream of a game gets from a stadium to their TV screens, and of course what it’s like having Mickey Mouse as a boss. Mr. Kosko was awesome and taught us all about the behind the scenes work he does, including the over 1,000 buttons he presses during any given game to show the fans at home the action of sports.

Thank you, Mr. Kosko! Our students learned so much about how Disney is more than just theme parks, and we think we have some future sports media professionals in the making. Stay tuned for more Disney Week magic coming soon from Summer Enrichment/Extended School Year!
