There is some information that Etsy just doesn’t provide. But stay tuned! I am working on an algorithm to provide estimated number of sales for listings.

The first step to making a machine learning algorithm is to collect tons of data.

Although Etsy doesn’t provide sales numbers, there is a way to collect this information. It is practically impossible by hand, but here is a video clip of one of my programs collecting that information. It is going through tens of thousands of pages of results and collecting the information I need.

Once the data is collected, then I can start making the machine learning algorithm. And once that’s done I will be able to provide you all with the most accurate sales predictions possible for Etsy!

How often do you notice your own feelings? There is so much going on inside of us that we barely even notice or recognize.

And if you do notice your feelings, do you do anything about them? We don’t control what feelings arise but that doesn’t mean we are powerless to them. Just because a feeling arises doesn’t mean we have to keep feeling that.

Feelings do need recognition. Often they are there to make sure you do notice something. What is the feeling? What is it telling you? What are they asking you to acknowledge?

Acknowledging is the first step, but things don’t need to end there. It’s possible to move forward, to process what must be processed and to move forward.

What are your feelings especially when you are about to begin something? These feelings will affect your attitude about the thing you’re about to begin.

But if your attitude isn’t one of determination and resolution, what are the feelings underneath it and what are they saying? Visit with them so that you can gain the determination and resolution you need to complete something. It will impact every step forward you take, or don’t take.

Some may think that researching designs or competition is only to copy what someone else is doing. Because of this, they may not be inclined to research because it would lessen the quality of their own work or their integrity. This, however, is a grave misunderstanding of what research is all about.

The main goal of research is to see what is doing well. This gives an understanding of what sort of thing people are looking for and how many people are looking for it.

Knowing the sorts of things people in a niche are looking for then gives you a starting point for your designs -- not to design the same thing, but to make something those same people would appreciate. Once you know something is selling, you know there is a market there and you can use your creativity, your unique design aesthetic, to give them something that they want and which is original.

Again, the goal is never just to steal a design. But it is to understand a market, and thereby to understand what it is people actually want.

It is not enough to have a great design to sell on Etsy, nor even to have a good listing with good tags. There is strategy that you can use that will push your items above everyone else’s.

An item that is selling will be considered to have a higher quality score. There are various things that go into an items quality score, but let’s focus on sales for now. The more an item sells the more Etsy considers it as a high quality item.

This is similar to my definition of a “good design” is one that is selling a lot. This puts aside arguments about whether a design is “good” or not to something that can be observed and merely stated. This design sold more than that design; therefore the one with more sales is the “better design”.

To take most advantage of this, you need to have your listings sell, and sell a lot. Once it has sales, it is considered to be of higher quality and will show up higher in search.

Showing higher up will then increase how often your item sells. It’s what’s called a virtuous circle. A good thing leading to a good thing which makes the first good thing more likely to happen again.

A very important strategy to consider is using a discount on your items to increase their sales. Discounts psychologically make people more likely to purchase. These sales will increase the listing’s positioning which will increase its sales. Once positioned well, you can then remove the discount. The positioning will guarantee it will sell more, and you will make much more money this way in the long run.

By reducing your profits in the short-term, you guarantee that you will make much more in the long-term.

Anything in particular you want to learn about how or why to research on Etsy?

Many people think that there is no need for them to research on Etsy because they don’t sell on Etsy.

However, even if you’re not selling on Etsy, you’re losing sales to people who are selling on Etsy, so it’s worth keeping an eye on them.

By watching what’s going on on Etsy, you’ll have a better grasp of what is selling, what isn’t, and ultimately what people are looking for and how to design your listing to help people find it. Etsy is an essential place to be doing research because it has a significant amount of the market for online design-related product sales.

But even more importantly, it costs money to list an item on Etsy — meaning that people will on average be posting higher quality designs than you’ll find on other sites. This makes it an extremely valuable site to use for research — even if you aren’t selling anything there.

Any questions about how to do the research? Post them in the comments and I can explain more!
Or check-out our website if you want to learn more about how to research in the first place.

How well you do creating your listing will have a huge impact on how much your item sells. It’s not just about having a product that is so good people want to buy it — they have to be able to find it.

The product listing should be crafted as delicately as the product itself.

One way to ensure you are succeeding here is to research the other items in the space. These can give you ideas of how to improve your listings.

The better your listing, the more people will see your design and the more likely it will sell.

Can you think of anything else that can help improve your listing showing up in the search results?
