Moving onto the stage next is Alexis Nestrud.

Alexis Nestrud was born in Minnesota and moved to Florida when she was three, but has primarily lived in Ruston since she was 10. For her senior high school year, she relocated to Natchitoches to attend Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts where she focused on sociology and history, thinking she would go into one of those two fields. She attended Louisiana Tech University for her freshman year but transferred to Northwestern State University to be near friends, and is currently majoring in sociology. She loves to learn and can often be found reading a book or writing a story.

Her real passion though is singing. Alexis has always loved to sing. She says it’s honestly hard to get her to stop. She fell in love with theatre when her grandmother took her to the Nutcracker Ballet in Washington, DC when she was very young. That love was reignited when she went to see the Phantom of the Opera in Houston for her 16th Birthday. Since then, she has found that her favorite musical style is Broadway and is almost always singing a Broadway song. She has also followed that passion for singing and theatre by acting in a few local events including Grease and several musical productions at First Baptist Ruston. One day she hopes to use her degree and her passion to make a difference in the lives of children.

If you would like join the fun and cheer for Alexis, tickets are still available. We have sold out of our tables for 4.

Northwestern State legend Jerry Pierce dies; brought Steel Magnolias to Natchitoches

The LSMSA family stands in sorrow with our partner, Northwestern State University, as they mourn the loss of Jerry Pierce, NSU’s Vice President for External Affairs, who died yesterday. He was a lifetime supporter of LSMSA and always stood by the school during its near 40 years in existence.

Our thoughts are also with the Pierce family, but particularly his wife, Regina, who is a member of our Governing Board of Directors.

We will miss him.

In Associate Lecturer of German and Languages department chair Dr. John Littlejohn's Beatles elective class, students cover each Beatles album, with homework assignments of listening to each album twice and writing 200-word essays.

In addition to discussing the albums, when they came out, and the influence they had on pop culture, the class watches Beatles movies and documentaries and talk about how the band is portrayed in films as well as music. Students recently remade the White album and as a class chose the order and songs they wanted their “new” album to have.
