Our first graders were fully immersed in Louisiana culture today as they wrapped up their Social Studies unit!
Students enjoyed tasting some Louisiana favorites, including tamales, meat pies, and Zapp’s chips. They also learned all the moves and had a blast dancing along to Creole and zydeco music!
What a fun and delicious way to celebrate all they’ve learned about the unique culture and traditions of our great state!

Congratulations to our talented 2nd grader, Tatelyn Roberts! 🏆

Tatelyn earned 3rd place in the K–3rd grade painting division of the 2026 Wild Things Youth Art Contest in Lacombe, Louisiana! This year’s contest received 424 entries across all divisions, making this a wonderful accomplishment!

Her colorful mallard painting, complete with heart-shaped glasses, shows off her creativity and personality. We are so proud of Tatelyn for sharing her talent and representing NSU Elementary Lab School! 💜🧡

Congratulations to NSU Elementary Lab School teacher, Mrs. Aaliyah Seawood!🌟

Aaliyah has been named one of Northwestern State University’s Outstanding Young Professionals in Education!

Mrs. Seawood currently teaches English/language arts at NSU Elementary Lab School. She has also served as a summer school site coordinator and sponsor/coach of the Natchitoches Central High School Maroon Line.

NSU’s Outstanding Young Professionals in Education award recognizes education graduates age 45 and younger who have at least 10 years of service in education and have made significant contributions to the field and/or their community.

Mrs. Seawood is known for building strong relationships with students, setting high expectations and creating a classroom where every child feels valued and capable of success! Her compassion and commitment to her students make a lasting impact both in and outside the classroom.

We are extremely proud to celebrate her and this amazing recognition! Congratulations, Aaliyah, on this well-deserved honor!🎉
