What started as one student’s dream to serve rural communities has grown into a movement making a meaningful difference.

In just its first year, Lipscomb University’s student chapter of Remote Area Medical (RAM) grew to 61 members united by a passion for expanding access to health care and serving others.

This spring, 10 Lipscomb RAM students volunteered at a free clinic in Harriman, Tennessee, working alongside other volunteers to help serve 346 patients and provide more than $307,000 in medical, dental and vision care in just two days. From patient check-in and dental sterilization to serving as Spanish translators, Lipscomb students put their skills, compassion and faith into action.

“This experience opened my eyes to how powerful serving others can be,” said Lipscomb student Karla Rocha-Juarez. “Every person I met had such a genuine, loving spirit, and it reflected the goodness of God in such a clear way.”

Housed in Lipscomb’s College of Business, the 16-month program combines flexible online learning with immersive experiences in Nashville — one of the nation’s leading healthcare capitals. Students learn directly from industry leaders, tackle real-world healthcare challenges and build valuable connections across Nashville’s dynamic healthcare community.

Lipscomb’s MHA is also the only CAHME-accredited program in Nashville and one of the few programs in the nation housed in an AACSB-accredited business school while also holding CAHME accreditation.

What does more than three decades of leadership in Nashville’s music industry teach you?

Sarah Trahern, CEO of the Country Music Association, shared three lessons learned during her career during this week's Nashville Business Breakfast at Lipscomb University:

• Follow the work that makes you curious.
• Big impact is usually built from small things.
• Leadership is stewardship, not ownership.

Sarah reflected on how curiosity led her from C-SPAN in Washington, D.C., to Nashville 31 years ago, where she combined her love of music with her television experience and ultimately became only the fifth CEO in CMA’s history.

She also reminded us that the big moments organizations are known for are built through countless small acts of excellence — and that strong leadership means preparing people and organizations to thrive beyond any one leader’s tenure.

As she prepares to retire from CMA at the end of this year, we are grateful for the wisdom she shared and for her remarkable impact on country music, the music industry and Nashville. Thank you, Sarah, for spending the morning with the Lipscomb community!
